Harrison Barnes Rejects Initial Extension Offer From Warriors

Cause the new tv deal.

I saw lots of dudes get overpaid big time and get crazy money lately

Yep, the last time the cap increased just a little over what was anticipated even role players got overpaid. Someone is likely to give Barnes at least $64M. Owners can't resist being stupid and tossing money around. He's probably wise to just wait.

What does this say about our players and the view sometimes expressed here that if we're a good enough team they'll want to stick around, maybe even for a little less money than they could get elsewhere?

Barnes will get more than $16 million/yr. And think about it. If it were you and you were going to make $16 million per year vs. $17 million per year over a 4 year deal... THAT'S $4 MILLION DOLLARS! And if it's $18 million/yr or $19 million/yr that you get then you would come away with an extra $8 - $12 MILLION DOLLARS!!!

Would you sign the contract for $16 today or would you gamble that the upward trend continues? Injuries can happen, you can look like less of a player, blah blah blah, but we now know that Harrison Barnes thinks like an optimist. Next year...

Favors was working through back and foot pain when he signed his deal and it wasn't a cap explosion year. I think he had good reason to be cautious then, but I don't expect him to do the same next time around.

I'd sign today. Barnes is no Wesley Matthews. Blow out a knee and he probably won't get that $64M deal. I'm sure he can buy insurance, though. But what if he has an "off" year? I'm not sure the hope of a bigger contract outweighs the risk.
