Has Quin lost the team?

I don’t have the numbers in front of me, but there are signs.

1. Rumors of team turmoil

2. Offense isn’t the same, much more selfish play, more iso, less blender offense. We don’t execute the offense like in the past.

3. I feel intensity level isn’t what it used to be

4. Defense gets worse it seems over the last 2-3 years.

5. Rudy and Mitchell not clicking at all on the court.

6. How is it that we have way more talent this year and we are fifth in the conference.

I know that’s his tagline and it’s rubbed folks the wrong way but it is part of his own handle after all. Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting as hard as anybody for our guys, but dang I think old Idiotic Minivan might be on to something here.
And Fish just so you know, I’m on board with your Good vibes mantra, though interpretation may vary.

Quin hasn't lost the team, which makes it all even sadder. If he had we could argue that if they just bought into the system we would be golden. However they are all on board with the system, which means the system isn't working as intended, unless Quin intends for purely iso and no adjustment when teams throw doubles and triples at Mitchell in the 4th quarter, in which case it just sucks. Either way I would rather think that he has lost them so there is hope they can all get on the same page and pull out a miracle run. But odds are we do exactly what we have been doing for 30+ games this year and get basically the same results.

I would say its more about the league has figured out how to counter our schemes because we do the same things over and over again.

Sometimes the game plan goes south and the players know it, unfortunately we just keep repeating our schemes like they will suddenly work. It sucks to do the same thing over again and relive those moments where teams countered and you didn't.

This years playoffs for me is all about whether we reinvent ourselves with the players we have when we need to or not. Can we be flexible with our schemes. If we can, it could be a party.

If we cannot then expect more of the same.

True, but the Jazz lost to ALL of the worst teams.
More Proof Quin has lost his team

Even more!! The fact that the players play so much iso, yes the jazz score more than anyone, I’ve never seen the jazz play so much iso, Gobert is having a historical year on both sides, and yet the defense is worse than ever, and Mitchell, even Conley to a lesser extent don’t pass it to Gobert in pick’n roll as much as in years past. Sometimes I feel like most of our threes come off iso and off the dribble, we aren’t shooting as many wide open threes as last year. The jazz are clearly playing a different brand of offense then before, did Quin change the offense? I doubt it. The playoffs will go a long way to answer the question of where the coach stands with his team. Let’s just see how dialed in this team is in playoff basketball when things slow down and become more physical and intense when every possession becomes even more Important and crucial. Will the jazz execute the offens better, will they play any semblance of defense other than Gobert?

I can’t speak for the organization, but if I were in charge, this years playoffs would make or break Quin as to his future with the jazz.

I started having these feelings after the jazz fell apart in that 6th game. There were clearly adjustments to be made. I have a hard time believing Quin just sat on his hands and did nothing to fix what was happening. It made me think Quin indeed lost this team.

The one thing Quin can control is who plays, regardless of how they are playing or if they buy into the system, that is where he has control. Yet he never benches anyone for sub-standard play or effort. He just plays the same set rotations unless forced to do otherwise as in through injury or foul trouble. When the game is on the line, and it is a different lineup than our normal one that got us a big lead, and we have seen our "starting 5" struggle throughout the game, what does he do? He puts in the starting 5, regardless of their performance to that point. He doesn't match up, he doesn't play the hot hand, he doesn't stick with what works. He goes back to what he is comfortable with, what the system demands. That is where he can have an impact if he can see past the blinders and play what is working. How often have we seen Royce getting cooked on D, so we put him right back in at the end of the game, because it is the system.

So even if he has lost the team, if he has the guts he can still influence them by who plays and who doesn't.

Quin did play House over O’Neale the last two games that mattered in crunch time

In essence, obviously.

He might otherwise be heard but unless Donovan endorses it (or at least doesn't actively undermine it), it ain't happening. This is Donovan's team for better or worse.
