Hatfield and Charles West

Obviously, D. Hatfield being dismissed from the U of U football team is semi old news, but I see a few parallels with BYU recruit Charles West and I was just interested to see some BYU fans opinions.

Hatfield is accused of robbing somebody at knifepoint and at the very least admitted to selling stolen or "found" cell phones. I think Whitt made the right call dismissing the kid before trial. There's just too much smoke for there not to be a fire.

Charles West is accused of holding an escort that he found on backpage.com at knifepoint and at the very least has admitted to using the website for previous sexual encounters as he awaits his day in court. Add to that the mysterious "random" shooting in which he was targeted a couple of weeks ago. Just like Hatfield, there seems to be a lot of trouble surrounding this kid.

Ute and Cougar fans go back and forth quite a bit in regards to standards, ethics, etc. Honestly, I'm really puzzled why BYU has yet to pull his offer. Am I missing something? When you butter your bread with the honor code and Bronco constantly talks about bringing the "right" kind of kids to BYU, doesn't this seem to be counter productive for the Cougs?

I don't really care enough to have an opinion right now

I'd be shocked if this kid still has an offer. I bet BYU just wants him to go away. If they don't talk about it, it will disappear.

I tend to agree with this but cant figure out BYU's head in the ground mentality. Seems like getting out ahead of it and announcing an offer has been pulled kills the story much quicker than just silently waiting it out.

I have a really hard time seeing this kid ever playing for BYU.

I think most of us will agree on that. I'm just astonished that BYU of all schools has yet to cut bait. I think most universities would have pulled his offer as soon as he was charged in the hooker incident. Don't get me wrong, sometimes young kids screw up and it's nice when a school doesn't give up on him right away. Kyle VanNoy comes to mind, but that dude wasn't accused of holding a knife to a hookers throat.

Bronco has a history of talking to the player in trouble and deciding to believe their story. Sometimes it has worked out and sometimes it hasn't.

This might end up being as good of a decision as using a timeout trying to ice the kicker on a PAT attempt.

My guess is West claims he is innocent of everything but hiring a fetish hooker. I am a BYU fan and I'm shocked BYU has stood by him for this long. I don't have a problem with it I'm just surprised.

Hatfield may not have been the one that pulled the knife, but it is painfully obvious he was involved in some sort of "crime" group that was selling stolen stuff or robbing people or both. Same number as the knifer and he showed up this time with stolen goods. He may not be going to prison but he was obviously up to more than selling drunk sluts iphones.

Either way I hope they both get their **** together and become functioning adults like unto myself.

BYU cut ties him a few days ago apparently. His court troubles are supposedly going to take years to work through. Too bad. He looked like Reggie Bush on tape to me. Hopefully he gets his life together and gets another shot somewhere.

I don't know anything about this, just thought it was ****ed up when BYU dismissed Brandon Davies from the team for having sex. I mean let the kid live.

BYU made it to the Elite 8 without him and would have had a legit shot to win it all with him.. It's a shame.

I don't think byu made it to the elite 8.
I agree that's is lame that Davies got kicked off the team though. He was a huge part of that team.

Even lamer was Harvey unga getting kicked off the team for having sex with his girlfriend he had been with since high school and ended up marrying. He was the best running back in byu history (stats wise)
And he basically got the boot for sleeping with his wife

You're right, I stand corrected. They played Florida for a chance to go to the Elite 8 that year.

Correct, lost in the sweet 16 in double OT to Florida.

Ungas girl got pregnant, thats why he got busted.

It's being reported that Jamaal Williams has withdrawn from school and will redshirt this season.

Errr....I'm changing my post, not even going consider that he might transfer. He'll win the Doak Walker at BYU next year for sure now.
