What's new

hawks owner selling Team

Move this team to Seattle ASAP! Atlanta has NEVER supported the Hawks. I actually feel bad for the owner. While people can obviously be racists, hard data cannot. Whites probably have the most disposable income in the Atlanta area. As a business man, you're supposed to target the highest disposable income demographic. I haven't seen his email, so perhaps it's a bit more inflammatory, but the guy was between a rock and a hard place.

nope it is public opinion. liek omg that dude said racist ****.
instead of voting with their wallet, they are forced to sell business

Public opinion is only a factor through its effect on revenues. Capitalists will do wildly unpopular things if they make money from it.

This feels like he wants to sell the team, so he reported himself because he is having a hard time otherwise.

I dunno. That's just what get from this.

Trying to copy and paste but I'm not able at the moment. Very troubling comments by Hawks management about Luol Deng being "too African" in a most insulting way.

The following is the two-page letter written by Hawks’ co-owner Michael Gearon Jr. to majority owner Bruce Levenson in June requesting that GM Danny Ferry be asked to resign or fired for cause for racial slurs made during a conference call:

To: Bruce Levenson
From: SSG Group, LLC
Date: June 12, 2014
Re: Danny Ferry

As you know, last Friday there was a conference call attended by numerous persons including Hawks management and ownership. We believe that you and Ed Peskowitz were on the call, but we are not sure whether you were listening the whole time. During the call, which was recorded so that notes could be made for our partners unable to participate live, our GM Danny Ferry discussed player personnel issues at some length.

With respect to one potential free agent, a highly-regarded African-American player and humanitarian, Ferry talked about the player’s good points, and then went on to describe his negatives, stating that “he has a little African in him. Not in a bad way, but he’s like a guy who would have a nice store out front but sell you counterfeit stuff out of the back.” Ferry completed the racial slur by describing the player (and impliedly, all persons of African descent) as a two-faced liar and cheat....

wow...
can't really believe folks actually think and talk like this, but here's the evidence

sad...

So is it the owner or Danny Ferry that's at fault then?

both

Ferry's comments triggered the internal investigation which unearthed Levenson's 2012 e-mail in which me made multiple racially insensitive comments about Hawks fans.

Ferry is claiming his comments were taken from material he was reading that had been compiled by others associated with the team and were not his own words or reflective of how he thinks...

Though if that were truly the way it was, he should have refuted the statement then and there

It's all on tape it seems.

Americas obsession with 'racism' is the gift that keeps on giving

thanks for the laughs

It's not all of us, but I can see what you are saying.

It's such a touchy subject. It's beyond ridiculous. I don't think our approach to fixing it is helping much either. It's like a bunch of little kids trying to settle their differences.

Levensen will be the one that makes out like a bandit. "Yep, I'm a racist. Please deposit half a billion into my checking."

WTF?
How is that racism?
You guys over there are completely out of whack with that PC nonsense.

Saying he's "got a bit of African in him" and then elaborating by saying he's the kind of guy who would have a nice storefront but sell counterfeit goods out the back door. That's how it is racist.

PC or no PC, that's offensive. I don't even know what PC means. No one can really define it for me. No one dares take Gameface's PC challenge.

By sticking "that's racist!" label on every second offensive quote you deflate stigma associated with real racism.
Google "ethnic stereotypes" ffs.

P.S. PC stands for political correctness.

Yes, I know what words it stands for. I even know the individual definitions of those words. When put together...what does that mean? From what I gather it really, really, really depends on who you're talking to.

By sticking "that's racist" on racist comments I think we better identify racism in our society.

Pretty obvious that's his last major gig in sports. So he gotta protect himself and make the new owner fire him and pay out the remainder of his contract.

The only problem is if you shout "that's racist" at something, it doesn't become one. If it's not, it's not.

Sure, I agree. Good thing this one wasn't a false alarm, right?
