What's new

Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

What if Hayward turns into a legit stud?

We can still pay Kanter or Burks if we really want to. It's not like this means they are off the team (though we should try to trade Burks).

You have never liked Burks from the day he was drafted. Personally I think he is a much better players than Hayward!

Match and move on.

How do you match and move on? If we match, we deal with the possible consequences of having à non max calibre guy signéd to a max salary. We can't move on, he will be on our books.

We could NOT match and move on, but matching and moving on are opposites.

Since when has Jordan done anything right as GM? We should do the opposite of what Michael Jordan is doing.

Matching Hayward is following Jordan and that's not good.

A good rule of thumb? Do whatever is the opposite of what Jordan and Isaiah Thomas do.

Maybe it's not the things Jordan does, but it's the way he runs his team. His over-pushing character must be exhausting to all those players and staff.

Let him walk.

Can you srs imagine a scenario where Hayward is dominating on the Charlotte Bobcats to such a degree that we regret not maxing him?? SRS?!?!

I bet this is a toxic and way over priced contract.

I say we sign and trade for MKG. Just to get something out of it. I am all about shooters. but Hayward is not worth this money.
And MKG will be worth the risk.

I hope you can alter that nice signature with Exum replacing Hayward, if the signing happens.

Love how Cy rags on fish and I about being Burks homers....

But you are quite the Hayward Homer and think we should def match!!!

So Hayward is going to get paid more than just about all the players in the nba except 10-12. More than Kevin Love, Paul George, Russell Westbrook, and a third more than Steph Curry.

Actually, being in Utah made the big bucks for Hayward. So any GM in the NBA or Hayward should always remember that he may not get the chance to show his all-around game in somewhere else. As for the future, I think Utah is still one of the best places for him.

What the hell is MJ doing up there in Charlotte!!!!

As competitive as Jordan is....why the crap does he want Hayward?

I don't think Utah is in any position to let any talent walk right now, much less a 24 year old riser like Hayward. I expect the Match Game.

Utah’s totally going to match it and they totally shouldn’t.

Maybe he just wants Jazz to suffer a few millions more to keep Hayward. Maybe he was never meant to grab him anyway.

Since all the sources think Jazz will match, I think there is a chance that Jazz won't. maybe a smokescreen to screw another team?

The thing is too if the jazz match then I doubt Burks or Kanter would sign contracts. They'll just assume they can play out the year and get more money and it will suck if they turn out to be better than hayward.

But isn't this the case now anyway? If the Jazz don't match, perhaps they send some kind of message, but Burks and Kanter will still have seen that they can decline an extention, play out the contract and get a huge offer from anyone. Doesn't matter if it's the Jazz or the Bobcats.

Here's what the Charlotte media has to say:

https://www.charlotteobserver.com/2...ons-of-hornets-chasing-free.html#.U70QLfldX9M

The argument for the Hornets going all-in to sign Hayward:

He’s a multi-skill small forward who averaged 16.2 points, 5.2 assists and 5.1 rebounds last season.… At 6-foot-8, he has above-average height for his position, something Hornets coach Steve Clifford desires. … He has played three seasons in Utah with center Al Jefferson, the player through which the Hornets’ offense runs.

The argument against the Hornets going all-in to sign Hayward:

His field-goal percentage has fallen during each of his four NBA seasons, from 48.5 percent as a rookie to 41.3 percent last season. … Signing Hayward to an offer sheet (Thursday at the earliest) could tie up most of the Hornets’ cap room for as much as three days with the Jazz having the option to match. … Utah has a reported $30 million in cap space and Jazz officials have indicated they’d match any offer for Hayward.

So if we match, do we have to pay 15 percent more or not?

We need players with the contract mentality of Stockton, Malone and Duncan. Winning and improving was obviously more important to those guys than getting paid every penny they possibly could. Though those sorts of men are obviously hard to find, they do exist. Hopefully we will soon have proof that Favors is in that category. It simply will not work for the Utah Jazz to play this game by the rules that Hayward has set up. Good by Gordon.

This is a perfect example of why all you need to be a GM in the NBA is a brain with knowledge about the game and not experience as a player. I think a lot of us on this site could make better decisions than to give Hayward a contract of this magnitude.

if the jazz don't match, everyone will lose towards other teams

the jazz will lose a good player
the hornets will lose any chance to be good in a long run
from a basketball point of view, hayward will lose too

i can understand hayward though, the last 3 years the jazz organization sucked big time
maybe if they were heading this team properly the last years, then hayward would be willing to sign a reasonable deal here
