What's new

Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

I bet this is a toxic and way over priced contract.

I say we sign and trade for MKG. Just to get something out of it. I am all about shooters. but Hayward is not worth this money.
And MKG will be worth the risk.

MKG hasn't proven squat, and he hasn't been great on defense - which is supposed to be his calling card. Anyways, we can't do a sign-and-trade once Hayward signs the offer sheet.

RT @Adrian Wojnarowski: Charlotte has agreed to a 4-year, $63M maximum offer sheet w/ Gordon Hayward

DO NOT MATCH THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sign and trade for MKG. He is not worth the money.

Lol at all the irrational hate. Bringing up video games, hitting him for his "sideshow", working the system for the best payday he could get...

Good for Hayward.

I think the Jazz match, they will keep their word. Good or bad, Hayward is a Jazzman next year.

He hasn't signed anything yet. Nobody can sign a contract until the 10th. So we can talk with Charlotte all we want.

I don't think MKG is proven or anything. I just don't want to give up Hayward for nothing.

I'd rather pay the max for Hayward than have to pay whatever $$$ MKG makes and be forced to watch his jumpshot.

Have they publicly said they will match a MAX contract? Link?

I'd rather not pay him and give Burks+Kanter extensions. Though it would look pretty stupid if we let 3 star players leave in the last 2 years with Big Al, Milsap, and Hayward...

HAHA I just realized that Hayward will be making more then Big Al on the hornets... hahahahhaha

Since when has Jordan done anything right as GM? We should do the opposite of what Michael Jordan is doing.

Matching Hayward is following Jordan and that's not good.

A good rule of thumb? Do whatever is the opposite of what Jordan and Isaiah Thomas do.

Isaiah Thomas actually drafted extremely well as a gm. He just did everything else so poorly that no one seemed to notice.

So Hayward is going to get paid more than just about all the players in the nba except 10-12. More than Kevin Love, Paul George, Russell Westbrook, and a third more than Steph Curry.

People need to calm down. Especially you, my little Nicky.

16m is a ridiculous overpay for Hayward, but I wouldn't be surprised - nor think it's terrible - if the Jazz match, assuming they believe they can lock up Alec and Kanter as well.

This is a young team and realistically, we aren't going to be poised for a championship any time in the next four years. During those four years we need to see growth from the young corps, hopefully a burgeoning Exum that's escalating toward superstar status, and a couple of future (likely lottery) picks that may become bonafide stars themselves.

By the time 2018 rolls around we'll have a sense of whether or not Hayward is all that his paycheck would suggest (doubtful), in which case we extend him, we lock him up on an extension at a lower price, or we let him go and plan out our paydays for Exum and whatever other burgeoning stars are developing.

The only thing this deal really seems to waste is the potential for more asset accumulation through cap space, and I'm just not sure that we're going to have Golden State opportunities every year that would make sense for us.

We can't come close to max on every up and coming talent that the team gets. Twelve for Favors, max for Hayward, eight to ten for Burks, ten for Trey, eight to ten for Kanter, max for Exum, How much is a 7'2 center with the wingspan of a condor going to demand if he gets as good as we think he can? Hayward is a support player, you don't pay them over ten mil if you expect to go anywhere. Add to that that he has the self confidence of a chinchilla and I am starting to agree, don't match.

Yep.

Also, lol @ Add to that that he has the self confidence of a chinchilla.

You are aware that MJ isn't the GM?
