Hayward to the Suns?

Whatever, I just want one of those first round draft picks the suns have. Aren't they going to have like two pretty good ones? Let's trade Hayward for one of those and Goran Dragic. Burke and Dragic would be a pretty good team to man the point, and then we could draft Embiid and Parker.

I never get the theory that in certain situations a team needs to overpay a player. A bad deal is a bad deal, simple as that. I remember when Joe Johnson signed his ridiculous contract in ATL and everyone said that ATL needed to overpay him to keep him. They couldn't have wanted to get out from his contract sooner.

Good post

Well it came from a GM and from Vescey so it is a done deal, signed on the bottom line. Better start planning for the future. We can all ignore Hayward now since we know exactly how his part in all this will play out.

Do you think the Jazz will offer Marvin a max deal so he doesn't bail on us next? Hmmmmm.

2014 first round draft pick from Minnesota
Minnesota's 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-13 in 2014, 1-12 in 2015 or 1-12 in 2016; if Minnesota has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Phoenix by 2016, then Minnesota will instead convey its 2016 2nd round pick and 2017 2nd round pick to Phoenix [Minnesota-New Orleans-Phoenix, 7/27/2012]

2014 first round draft pick from Washington
Washington's 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-12 in 2014, 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016, 1-10 in 2017, 1-10 in 2018 or 1-10 in 2019 or unprotected in 2020 [Phoenix-Washington, 10/25/2013]

2014 first round draft pick from Indiana
Indiana's 1st round pick to Phoenix protected for selections 1-14 in 2014, 1-14 in 2015, 1-14 in 2016, 1-14 in 2017, 1-14 in 2018 or 1-14 in 2019 or unprotected in 2020 [Indiana-Phoenix, 7/28/2013]

So it looks like 3 first round picks. Their own, Minny's, and Indiana.

I am constantly shaking my head at NBA executives that go all gaga over some free agents and then the next year they are doing everything they can to try to unload these players that they were so determined to land.

Hedo Turkoglu
Rudy Gay
Gerald Wallace
Nene

I say turn around is fair play. Lets offer a huge contract to bledsoe and try to steal him. Personally I think bledsoe has proven to be a difference maker and worth more than hayward.

This!

Or, let's try to trade Hayward for some of those stockpiled picks that they have.

I hope they give Hayward the max. Then in 4 years, when they have Wiggins or Parker and we have the other, and we are competing against each other for titles, they will have a key player come up for FA (like we did with Bell), that player will leave PHX for bigger money, and because we didn't overpay an average player, we will be able to add that piece instead of lose it, and go on to win 5 titles over a 10 year period.

I know grain of salt but,

According to a GM, the Suns will do everything possible this summer to sign Gordon Hayward to an unmatchable offer sheet....

At a Taco Bell, a Target, a Jiffy Lube? A GM of what? A different team's GM?

Unmatchable? Is that even possible? Irregardless there are two things worse than unmatchable contract 1- an untradeable contract and 2- an unwatchable contract.

May the force be with the jazz.

Regardless of what you may think, "irregardless" is not really a word, yet.

If Suns want to pay max money to a non-max player, let them. Max money should be reserved for #1 options on a winning team, and Hayward is proving that he is not that. He is a #2 or #3 on a winning team, maybe.

So by your logic, there should only be one max player on a championship team? What about Pau Gasol, Dwayne Wade, Russell Westbrook, Scottie Pippen, Chris Bosh, John Stockton, Amare Stoudemire, Charles Barkley, Clyde Drexler, etc in their primes? Not max guys because they were not the primary option on their own team, and could not lead a team to a championship on their own?

I am in no way arguing that Hayward was as good as any of these guys though, or that he should get max money, just pointing out that Max does not always mean they are Kevin Durant or LeBron James.

I don't hate Hayward, I just think he's extremely overrated by many Jazz fans. Millsap only got $10M year w/ Atlanta, and he's a more impactful and consistent player than Hayward ever will be, so what makes anyone think he's worth $12M+ per year? Absolutely ridiculous.

If he can get a sweet deal from Phoenix, I'll be happy for him. If money makes him happy, he needs to go get the most he possibly can. Good for him.

I would define a max player as a player that you can build around, that is a leader, can take over games when needed and that other players want to play with.

I would not have built my team around AK. Malone can do all those things. So could Stockton. Duncan fits that. Joe Johnson didn't.

That is why I don't pay Hayward over 10 per. If you pay him 13, that means that he is a better player than TWO players. You are sacrificing a Foye off the bench, a Landry type player to keep him around. I don't think he is that good. I'd rather let Hayward walk, and sign a Landry and a three point specialist, than pay Hayward that much.

Hayward has more all-around skills than Paul with greater upside. I think he will be the better player if he continues to progress.
