HCG- has anyone tried it?

I don't like the stuff, I'm not trying to sell it, I'd rather it didn't exist. But I keep hearing about people taking it and losing weight. I'm curious, it's been in Utah for sometime now... have any of you taken it and seen results? Know anyone who has? Anyone taken it and not seen results?

(I'd prefer not to get into a debate about the mechanism of how it works or whether or not its a good product. Just curious if anyone on the board has tried it and what their experience was.)

I saw an old acquaintance while shopping a few months ago. He said he lost about 20 pounds with it and was still using it. I have no idea if he incorporated other things to lose weight as well, but he seemed pleased.

A friend's sister did it and lost a ton of weight. However apparently HCG is coupled with a 500 calorie a day diet. I'm pretty sure the low calorie intake had something to do with it.

The 500 calorie diet has everything to do with it. The pregnant lady hormone's role is to suppress hunger pangs and cravings enough to overcome the mental and physical challenges of a 500 cal/day diet. No pain and no gain.

People could easily lose weight even on a modest 1200 calories a day. Keeping your pie hole shut is the key and when you do open it, don't stuff it with crap.

Regarding HCG suppressing appetite, I've found over the years that it is not hunger pangs that drive people to over eat. It's much deeper than that. Everything from emotional pain to stress to something as simple as boredom (yes, people eat when they are bored) is where the majority of over eating stems from. Admitting or discovering why your over eating is the first step to losing weight. There's a reason so many diets and exercise plans fail. The root cause of why your stuffing your face is not addressed.

You sound like a fat trainer.

I'm no medical professional, but a man (or even a woman) taking pregnancy hormones when they're not supposed to sounds like a really dumb idea.

Losing weight really isn't that difficult. It's about discipline, not some magic solution. And I was under the impression that the reason you lose weight is to keep it off. Relying on some shifty mechanism doesn't sound reliable, long term. A change in lifestyle is what's required.

I would think pregnancy hormones would increase hunger pangs and cravings....for pickles and ice cream and such.

My wife's Clinical Chemistry class covered a study done on the HCG diet. She told me that the study showed that the losing of weight was strictly based on only eating 500 calories a day. The HCG was just supposed to curb the hunger. Any diet that you are told not to work out on I would not trust.

I tried 1400 calories for like a week one time when I was trying to cut quickly for a weigh in type contest and I felt like my body was eating itself and was always tired. I couldn't imagine only 500. But yeah, if you put yourself through that for a couple of months, you damn sure better not start binge eating once you go off of it and gain it all back. That would suck.

How did I peg you wrong this whole time? Forget HCG, I was positive you were shooting estrogen extracted from all these Jimmer crush disappointed chumps like NAOS and Fall'n'lickin.

Funny because my 5000 diet does the same. Science proves you wrong, bro, but I won't rub it on considering our very recent BYFUneral.

Crack a Beer! for The Jimmer.
