Health & Fitness Thread

I'm sure that's true for those who don't eat many veggies or fruits. Don't know about the rest of your post. Seems like a lot of overthink.

Dunno.. just feel very bloated anytime I blend veg & fruit together and having a big glass full of fibre all at once. Could be just me.

Wow cool bro - we're big on pets here so he's probably quite well off. We also love mountain biking.

Yah we go to war, we've just decided to join the Iraq war this week.
Hope you two have a lot to talk about when he gets back. He said he was going to a Jazz game too, at first I though it was you, but he told me he wasn't Asian(I'm colorblind, so I couldn't tell)

Usually you can tell by their eyes. Also physique (sometimes).

Lots of kiwis are now becoming OKC fans because of Adams. Hate them.

Yeah my comfortable weight is 165, I can eat what I want with not much exercise and I'd be able to stay at that weight pretty comfortably. But I've always had it at the back of my mind that I was not as healthy as I could be, I'd always had this ring of fat around my waist and always on the chubby side.

Now that I'm 143 I'm trying to figure out how to stay at this weight without having to exercise everyday and being able to 'cheat' and eat what I want once in a while without reverting to my old weight. I'll keep you guys posted as to how I can achieve this.

OK so it's been nearly a month. I've cut down on exercise from a 60min workout to 30min and just doing 3-4 days a week now instead of everyday. Still watching what I eat but would occasionally have an ice cream or chocolate when I'm at the movies, etc.

Weight is still hovering around 143. So far so good.

I'm 5'8" and was 165lbs (75kg) before I started eating right & exercise (about 3 months ago). I was 181lbs (82kg) when I was at my heaviest (working in an office, having food cooked for me, etc). I have had to buy a couple of new pair of jeans as my older ones just don't fit anymore, even with a belt on it is just too baggy.

I've always been a bit on the chubby side and this is the thinnest I've been since I was in High School. It is quite amazing what gaining muscle mass can do to your metabolism. It literally just uses up what you eat and you don't put on as much fat.

It is definitely possible. Do you work out at all? Do you eat takeaway often?

Watching what you eat, work out 3-4 times a week, and may be fast 1 day a week would probably get you down to 180 in about 4 weeks.

I work a desk job, have 2 young kids so no time for gym, I eat out 3 or 4 times a week ... I'm 30 and still look moderately in shape with my clothes on. I consider that a win.

Minus the x2 young kids and that was me a few years back too... it wasn't until I got tested for high cholesterol that I started on this journey... I guess there is a turning point for all of us though :)

This thread is great. Nice work getting fit ya'll! Feb 2013 I weighed in at 214(5'8"). That was the turning point for me. 174 currently, training for Salt Lake Spartan Race in June. Considering a half marathon with a friend in August. Still haven't gotten the nutrition fully down, I still consume too much sugar, but making progress.

You should all feel damn good about yourselves for the progress you've made!

Thanks so much bro it means a lot!! Wow sounds like you've done really well too.

It really is strange how I used to just gobble down white bread, chips, white rice, coke, juice, etc. Now I would feel kinda bad if I have to eat those things, but instead started enjoying the natural taste of raw stuff a lot more like just eat a whole apple instead of apple juice or snacking on pistachios/almond instead of chips. Sometimes for dinner I would just have raw carrots/broccoli dipped in hummus with some whole grain breads and may be 1 boiled egg and some fresh tomatoes.

Much better for your body, much better for the waistline, and much more energy during the day too!!!

I'm still on track. Not making crazy gains (losses) but figure getting where I want will be a multi-year process. I don't want to burn out trying too hard to lose weight on an unrealistic timetable. I was at 260, now at 236, aiming for either 180 or a 36" waist. Whichever comes first I'll decide if I want to lose more or stay where I'm at. So, sometime around 2017.

Are you doing much exercise at all or just focussing on eating right?

I'm exercising for 30min M-F, alternating between straight cardio (tue-thurs) and boot camp style calisthenics (M-W-F). Also making a concerted effort to walk as much as I can while I'm at work. I've been doing between 7-11 miles a day walking at work. I'm also eating a lot less. But I haven't really cut back on beer much and I imagine that's been slowing me down. But like I said, I'm not looking for fast gains, I'm looking at a lifestyle change that in a few years will get me where I want to be. I've only missed two exercise days since the beginning of the year, one was my birthday. I feel great and have noticeably better flexibility (kind of weird but a big one for me) more endurance and moderately more strength. My big worry is high blood pressure. I am happy to look better and feel better, that's all great, I just don't want to die before I hit 50.

Played basketball today for teh 1st time in a week or 2. Damn, back to being out of shape. School got me stressed so I havent been eating right and I weigh 195 now. I was at 180 (pretty much my ideal weight) to start the school year. Went to the grocery store and I'm going back on my weekday vegetarian diet. No meat on the weekdays and only once per weekend.
