Two years in a row? C'mon. This award is such a joke now. It only can go to a player on the top two teams? Gobert is better than kawhi and Draymond. If he was on either those teams there would be no discussion other than Gobert casting a shadow on those lesser defenders.

I personally declare Rudy Gobert the real and true DPOY. Opponent field goal % at the rim is virtually negative. You cannot argue against this. Declaration made. Gobert is now DPOY. I am contacting bbal-reference.com to make this finalized.

Sorry but if Gobert is playing on GSW or Spurs, he would not even be starter for their style of play and for being a complete offensive liability. Gobert regressed this year, homer or not, let's be real about that, he isn't the franchise changing big that he was once thought of. He will be a decent center but the way the game is changing, a big who gives you NOTHING on the offensive end isn't a franchise player.

The NBA thinks Millsap is a better defender than Gobert...
 
sucks that he will not be first or second team if Deandre and Hassan take 1/2 at Center. I think Hassan is overrated because of his block stats versus overall team defense. Not sure the overlap in the voters between DPOY versus all defense teams, however.
 
There's no way Gobert gets the DPOY this year over Whiteside, not over Leonard(the obvious choice) or Green either.

Yeah, I think that's the difference.

I also think it's why he seemed to have regressed. I don't think he did regress, just missed a lot of time and then had to get back into the swing of things and wasn't really 100%.
 
Voters don't care about advanced analytics that make Gobert look good. They care about stare and reputation.

We need to win more and he didn't play enough games. If he plays 75 games and we are the fifth seed then we can talk.

Haters, if Exum plays this year Gobert wins by a landslide. How do you argue white side over the best defense in the NBA?

Leonard is hands down the DPY. Easy and it's not really that close

That might be true but mostly because we would have been a better team all year which helps players win awards. But the fact is he didnt and we didnt make the playoffs. The 12th worst team doesnt deserve to have the DPOY. Next year is his year for that award or at least be close to winning.
