What's new

hello from the hospital!!!

Congrats man! Seeing that pic almost makes me want another one. Almost.

Actually, not even almost. I never want to do that again.

My wife got her IUD out, looks like I'll be in your position in the next 10 or 11 months if everything works out.

I'm sure I'll get 1/2 jokes from you guys, but any advice for 1st time dads on how to prepare for this day? Not trying to highjack the thread PKM, but it seems like there might be a lot of good knowledge here. Mainly thinking of the birth day - what to plan for, things that surprised you, cutting the umbilical cord or not, etc. Feel free to PM me if you don't want to type it here.

When's your baby due?

April 28th - we are set to take the birthing class soon, but thought there might be some good advice out there from a fathers perspective.

First advice. Tell your wife to hold on one more day. My birthday is April 29.
Second advice. Totally ignore advice number one.

Congratulations!!!!

My advice;

- Get CLOSE for delivery. Seeing my first child's hair coming out was the most life-changing event of my life and it's not close.
- Fight for time from work/school for the first 4 days. Thank me later. take it all in.. and kiss the mom a lot..

I have lots of advice about how to handle family at the hospital.. do you expect many?

The cord.. yes, cut it.. be prepared that it's tough.. no biggie, but it doesn't cut like paper. Happy for you bro.. go BLUE!

I was guessing he might come the 29th, but now I'm liking the 28th :). Family? Unfortunately, there is a good chance there will be no family present, but there is a slim chance that my wife's mom and dad might make it. Her mom is relaxed, dad not so much.

I like all of the advice you provided, especially "get close". Thanks PKM!

Less family is better. Youre about to experience the most incredible thing ever..the less distractions the better.

Take a sweatshirt to the hospital.. the coldest person the night after the birth is the dad... and you will sleep like you were the one that gave birth.

Your baby's heart rate will drop during birth .. its normal.. but scary.. don't worry.. its normal.. but scary. :)
