Hey guys, well I just wanted some of your opinions on my basketball game. I am a sophomore in high school and our basketball season ended just about a month ago. Our team finished with a horrible 9-18 record, but our team is full of sophomores and juniors, we only had two seniors (one was our 3rd leading scorer, other one was a bench warmer). I came in as a freshman behind a senior who averaged 15 PPG, 4 RPG, and 4 APG at the end of his senior year. I played in 10 varsity games out of 30 and in those ten games I only averaged a few minutes and averaged 1.6 PPG, 0.6 RPG, and 0.3 APG. This year I went from being the 10th man on a team that made it to the state tournament to a starting point-guard on an underachieving team. I improved a lot by playing basketball everyday during the summer and I averaged 10.0 PPG, 3.0 RPG, and 2.4 APG. The divisons for high school basketball are Divison I- Divison IV and we play in Division III. I made All-Division III 4th team this year. My life-long dream is to get a scholarship to a D-1 college and my question is do I have hope?

How are your academics? (HUGE!)

College teams need to maintain minimum GPA's or face sanctions by the NCAA. Each year there are a handful of teams that are in danger and looking for a scholarship player to being the aggregate scores up. If you're slacking in school .. stop. Kick *** in the class room and you are MUCH further along. The fact you're here as much as you are would make me question your dedication. That offend you? Tough. You'll never make it.

What's your height/athletic ability? It just needs to be above average, not great.

Be humble, articulate, and let your game speak for yourself. - Have friends tape your games, compile mixtapes, have THEM promote you on FB, YT, twitter, etc.. (not you). You act as if you had no idea the stuff is even being put out there. Your parents are interested in your passion but not real involved.

Further promotion - Contact ALL div1 schools and ask them for an information card. Fill them out and send them back to all schools. Write letters to all coaches of these schools and humbly suggest they take a look. Emphasize grades, love of playing defense.. you get the idea. Send the friend's vids to the coaches as well.

Ask the coaches who their most respected recruiters are and for their contact info. Invite them to games, write them letters directly .. if you get them to a game, seek them out, be humble, thank them for coming, tell them you hope you don't disappoint.. SELL yourself as a kid they want around the program.

DO NOT be a spazz, but hustle your *** off. Be a WORKER and a fantastic TEAMMATE. Let them see you cheer on every play if you're on the bench, but don't be cheesy.

It takes very hard work (in the classroom, on the court, and in the locker room) and a ton of persistence.. but it looks like you could do it.

Best of luck!

3.7 GPA through two years in highschool, 5'10, and average athletically. I agree, I am on here too much and definitely need to stop.

I enjoy your posts quite a bit and you would be missed. My advice, however, is solid. Spend more time in the gym and the books.. and a little bit of time here is healthy, I suppose (not really).

Obviously not trying to get rid of you.. but want you to reach your dreams. . Come back here and gloat BIG after you've done that.

Watching the game of basketball obviously will help make you a better player and it's spring break so I have been on here more (obviously not a good excuse for not playing basketball), but it's conference championship week and some time to relax amd just watch college basketball is what I have been doing.

Enjoy it. Just always ask yourself, "what's my competitor doing right now... do I deserve it more.. or him?"

Google Trey Burke Journey to Ann Arbor. I think there are 4 or 5 episodes (low production quality). You can see his determination, work ethic and dedication plus a lot of the workouts and advice he receives along the way as he prepares for Michigan. Might be worth checking out. Congrats on the improvement and newfound role with the team - good luck - keep us posted!

...speaking of distractions...I should probably stay off this site myself and come back in a couple months when school is out...
