So I'm reading everyones stupid posts and I see that the majority have already tricked themselves into LOVING this trade!!!! DEFENSE MECHANISMS, I'M TELLING YOU FOOLS. Keep fooling yourselves into believing this was great... Some of you guys just seem to LOVE everything KOC does for some awkward reason.

The same group of clowns who LOVED the Jefferson move and immediately dubbed him as being superior to Carlos Boozer are now trying to tell me that this trade was necessary? Wait what's that? It's the sound of THE KING being right again. NOT YOU.

Draft picks and potential are extremely overrated among Jazz fans. Face it, the Nets win this deal hands down Matt Harpring pants on the ground.

I suppose Utah was supposed to wait and hope they would be able to resign a guy who was never going stay, or hope that MAYBE somebody offered Utah a better deal as the clock wound down (extremely unlikely). Just think how screwed Utah would have been once D-Will left for nothing. This franchise probably would have never recovered. You can call us homers for liking this trade but I think it's funny that almost to man, people who's job it is to scout, cover, and comment on the NBA think the Utah Jazz did themselves a really big favor by this deal. These are not Jazz homers and many times these are people who have been very critical of past Jazz moves.

What I have seen mostly over the past couple of days is a group of people who were in shock initially, lashed out, then came to accept that this cannot be changed so they are trying to make a positive out of a negative situation. If you enjoy reveling in negatvitiy and fatalism knock yourself out. I for one hope we can move on try to make the best of things.

For the record I am in the camp that NJ won this trade. To get arguably the best PG in the league for a mid-level PG and a project plus a few picks of dubious value is a coup no matter how you look at it.

That said, the writing was on the wall. I think it was apparent to the FO that Deron was not going to stick around past this contract. So they decided to get what they could. I think they got less than they should have but at least they got something and didn't just let him bolt for a trade exception or something lame like that.

I still think the FO sucks right now. Why didn't they work harder to put a team around D Will that could compete. They shipped out piece by piece a competetive team over the past 2-3 years, but didn't do anything to replace them. Big fail for the FO imo, but at least they made some move to get something for D Will.

So this is our team and I am ready to look to the future and see where we can go with this new group.

If you've read some of my earlier posts, you'd be aware that I've been one of the biggest Greg Miller critics on this board. KOC less so, because I think his hands are usually tied by the owner(s) or by Sloan. Larry has vetoed a couple of trades, but when KOC is allowed or forced to make a move, he generally does a good job (like trading Arroyo, Giricek, moving up to get Deron, trading for Jefferson, moving swiftly to sign Boozer before Carlos could go to Denver, etc).

And jazzfan, a "franchise" tag is just a talking point for the owners. Even so, it will probably work out just like it has in the NFL. If a player truly wants to go elsewhere, he bitches and moans until he gets traded, or threatens to hold out if the team slaps a franchise tag on him.

We get a borderline all-star in Harris. He's had two decent seasons due to mediocre talent around him. Look at his last two years in Dallas and his first in NJ. Damn impressive! Only 1 year older than Deron. So 85% of Deron's production at 50% of the salary. Favors was either the 1st or 2nd most highly-regarded big man in the draft (behind or ahead of Cousins). Do we expect a 19-yr old to come in and dominate from the start? The "kid" is 6'10" and 246 pounds. He can eventually play the 5 a la Stoudemire or play the 4 alongside another big. Why do we struggle against the Lakers, Dallas, etc.? Because we don't have the size inside to match up. Now we have Favors and Jefferson. Millsap can eventually return to his role as super-sub and dominate backups.
 
Well there is some truth to what Sloanfield says, it is just the way he says it that makes it tough to agree with him.

You call it that I call it a defense mechanism; however, it's obvious that I don't deal with change well.

With the exception of shipping out Brewer...and that came after he and his agent turned down a contract before the season started, the Jazz placated Deron at every turn. Williams lobbied to keep his friend, CJ, and the Jazz matched the offer. Williams wanted Millsap to stay, and the Jazz matched Portland's offer. They brought in an outside shooter in Korver. They kept Boozer until the end of the season instead of trading him in order to make a playoff run. And the Jazz exited the playoffs earlier and earlier each season. The team was broken. We weren't going anywhere with the core of Boozer, AK, Okur and Deron. You can't retool a team in one year, unless you have unlimited funds or can benefit from an uneven trade like LA.

I think the Jazz were well on their way to retooling: Jefferson was brought in to replace Boozer. Utah finally signed a quality PG to backup Deron (he was bitching last year about playing too many minutes). Yep, they swung and missed on Bell. He clearly has underperformed. Same with Deron's BFF. Miles has been wildly inconsistent. The Millers didn't have an extra $15M to keep Matthews or $8M to keep Korver (doubling the salaries due to the luxury tax). Put that on Larry H. He was sentimental about keeping AK and vetoed the deals that would have gotten Utah out from under his salary. But Deron's not a dummy. He knew AK's deal was up and the Jazz could have spent some money this summer. Instead, he's been pouting like a little boy. In reality, his own play - even before the wrist injury - has left much to be desired.
 
I've been optimistic about this trade the entire time. Deron is a fantastic player but I believe he is overrated. Time and time again I saw Deron get embarrassed by the smaller, quicker guards in the league (Rose, Westbrook, Harris, etc.). Harris, on the other hand, is one of the most underrated players in the league. He's overshadowed by all of these elite players (Nash, Williams, Paul, Rose, etc.) who play for good teams. If Rose played for the Nets, he'd be in the same position, overlooked somewhat. I think a lot of you overvalue Deron and undervalue the majority of players who play for under-performing teams (Harris). Oh, not to mention we've got a rookie big man who is going to be a special player in this league after a few years. Also, lets not forgot about the two first round picks we've got now that we didn't have before. I approve of this trade and so will you later down the road.
 
There is some truth the "defense mechanism" statement. I think some people are seeing this as a good trade because they are trying to make the best of a bad situation. Can't blame them too much.
