After reviewing Jeffers' and Gaines stats from Orlando I'm not sure they have NBA talent. Jeffer's has no outside shot to speak of and Gaines probably couldn't be trusted to finish a game given his awful free throw percentage which also manifested itself last year two. Also these two will make more than the rookie minimum because they are considered veterans. Because the Jazz are in the luxury tax there might be some minimum wage guys that will be better. In no particular order
Jeremy Linn PG from Harvard other threat started about him.
Kevin Kruger Flash experience and had better stats than Gaines or Maynor in Orlando. Currently playing in a league in Asia.
Mikhal Torrance combo guard from Alabama 6'5" and played John Wall to a statistical dead heat his last college game.
Tyrese Rice played for us in Orlando and playing for Sacto now
Patrick Mills Portland point (Portland has too many players and he might be had cheap.
Jon Scheyer Duke Point two doing OK for Miami.
Pooh Jeter 15 points 6 assists for Cleveland
JC Carroll good numbers for Boston in Orlando
wings;
Sylan Landesberg 6'6" player that was Virginia's leading scorer last year. averaging 9.5 on 66% shooting for Sacto.
Gerald Green former NBA slam dunk champion and teammate of Jefferson.
Morris Almond chucker extraordinare but shooting a very high percentage in summer league.
Luke Jackson former high first round pick and dropped 32 in an NBA game for Toronto.
Demetrius Nichols did OK for us in Orlando and doing OK for Portland too.
Bigs:
James Augustine did fine for us in Orlando but after his first game appears to have hit the wall.
Alex Johnson played for us in camp last year put up sick DLeague numbers and is averaging 8.3 points on 75% shooting. Probably lost in a numbers game in Houston.
Rod Benson played well in game 4 in Orlando and averaged 24 and 16 in DLeague playoffs
Jamero Davidson played well in game 5 in Orlando.
Omar Samhan St. Mary's big putting up decent numbers for Dallas.
Artisom Paretoroski led D-1 in rebounding and did OK for Boston. 6'11" 270 lbs.

Out of this motley crew I'm thinking there would be some players better than Gaines or Jeffers who will cost less and help the luxury tax situation. And we might find another Wes Matthews as well.

Give me James Augustine and patty mills but if mills cant be haved then id take a serious look at scheyer. Can shoot the ball and can be counted on off the bench if given a chance i think(plus hes white). What a way to stick it to portland though by getting mills who has played great in international comp agaisnt nba players. Plus give us a little speed off the bench and we could play him and dwill togther when teams like nugs play lawson and billups

I looked at Portland's roster. They have way too many guards, why not take a shot at him

Guards: Miller,Roy,Matthews,Armon Johnson,Elliot Williams,Jerryd Bayless,Fernandez,Mills
Guards/Forwards: Nicolas Batum,Luke Babbitt

I think either Mills or the Nevada point guard who was drafted high in the second round gets offed before the regular season starts. Too many bodies there and I really don't think they thought we would let Wes go.

I think there are players out there that would thrive in the Sloan system that would play for minimum wage. Gaines and Jeffers may be good guys but they don't appear to me to be NBA talents.

Another guy to see if he would be interested in a minimum contract is Adam Morrison. He averaged 20 points and 5 board in last year's summer league. Plus he's got all that bling earned while wearing a suit.

Potentially talented, probably cheap:

Patrick Mills - he'd be a great backup.
Jon Scheyer - great outside shot ala Redick. Can he run the point though? maybe a combo guard?
Sylan Landesberg - Some expert said this guy was one of the best undrafted.
James Augustine - Good backup, friend of Dwill.
Omar Samhan - Give him a shot - everyone looks at this lumbering guy and counts him out but he does well even so.
Artisom Paretoroski - Big guy - give him a shot.

Wait so is Adam Morrison a FA then? What is up with him being a big disappointment? Does he refuse to play defense, because I don't know if he's logged more than 20 minutes in his NBA career.

Adam Morrison suffered a severe knee injury after being the third player picked in the draft and has lost a step to be sure. I can't imagine a team giving him a four million a year three year deal until he proves he can play. He had decent numbers as a rookie at Charlotte.

Morrison's a RFA. The Wiz just worked him out. If he's decent I imagine they'll get him cheap. He'll be happy to have a job.

It seems like there's an opportunity to find a Wesley Matthews at a lot of positions right now for not a lot of cash expended. That's why they play Sloan and KOC the big bucks.

I like your list. I would also include Torrance. I think Scheyer got hurt but I do not know how serious.

I would love in order Mills, Torrance, Samhan, Augustine, Artisom and Landesberg.
