Honest Ceiling

I understand the idea behind the OP. It takes elite talent, superstar talent, to really win in this league. The Jazz don't have that #1 guy. Even good teams like Memphis, the Rockets and the Clippers rarely get past the 2nd round of the POs. That said, it really only takes one guy to build around. The Warriors without Steph Curry might not be a playoff team. The Thunder without Durant are barely a .500 team as they showed last year.

If the Jazz could add one legit star player to the mix they currently have, that could put them into the contender tier. But it would have to be one extremely well considered, surgically precise player move to make that happen. Truthfully, I don't think the Jazz can make that move until they get a better read on how a few of their young players are going to turn out.

Right now, the only conclusions we can draw are that neither Trey Burke nor Derrick Favors are superstars in this league. Favors is a decent defensive-minded starting PF in the mold of a Brian Grant, and Trey is a rotation guard. Maybe you conclude that Alec Burks is an above-average scoring guard like a Monta Ellis of sorts. If so, then maybe Burke, Burks and Favors are guys you'd be willing to move for a star-level player.

If Trey Lyles really pans out in the next two years, that could make trading Derrick Favors more tolerable.
Good post

spacing is the problem. That won't get better when Exum returns.

Right now, the most untouchable players for me are Gobert, Hayward, and Exum.

Sad to say it but we're far from being a legit contender with Hayward as our #1 option, and I wished I was wrong. He doesn't have 'it' consistently like for example KD. So unless we get our hands on a real consistent difference maker it's gonna be a long way to the top.

Also if you ask me I'm higher on Hood in his 2nd year than I was on Hayward in his 2nd year. I'm curious to know if others have the same perception.

I also think Hood is better at this point in his career than Hayward was at that same point. Hood is a stud and if he can get that 3 point shoot to consistently go down that is a big first step in addressing our 3 point and spacing problems.

[rant]Gordon Hoayward is right, this team is full of a bunch of bums, scrubs and castaways who have never done anything and are only in the league because there are 30 teams rather than 29. It is the stupid believers in the media and fan base that have built up this false sense of hope, and I for one am glad that this optimism is shattering on the rocks of the preseason. The media and fans can't expect this team to win, and should never have suggested they compete. That is so unfair to place that burden on Hayward and company. Much better to align our expectations with Gordon's and accept that this team sucks.

Where is the following 2016 Lottery Picks thread? [/rant]

I've never seen you speaking in that manner before.

i don't usually talk **** but it just pisses me off. i always believe in jazz, so it just makes me mad to see someone talk like this over preseason. i guess warriors will be a lottery team from this year's preseason record.

If we had this forum back in the late-80s I wonder how many of you would be suggesting the Jazz trade Stockton or Malone because there was a chance they might sign with another team in a few years. STOP IT.

Speculation. Probably correct but the last 4 games have been eh.

Players have been held out a lot since the first pre-season game. I think maybe Snyder should have tried to get our starters more time together with the lineup they will be playing at the start of the season, but he has been more cautious about fatigue and injury than about getting this team into rhythm. A team out of rhythm can look terrible even when they aren't terrible.

I'm not jumping ship just yet.

Karl Malone here again. Karl Malone would like to offer some suggestions on how to be a good Utah Jazz fan. Karl Malone thinks a good fan does not complain. Karl Malone things a good fan does not suggest Ludacris trades of Utah Jazz's best players, Karl Malone also thinks that all of you Jazz Fanz are down on the team because of preseason. Karl Malone thinks that is dumb.

You mean when we traded our 2 most proven players, all stars, Adrian Dantley and Ricky Green? The 80's when we moved an unhappy hall of famer, Pistol Pete? Is that the same 80's you are talking about?

Let's all just chill, alt13 admitted that he was drunk so this thread is not to be taken too seriously, or maybe it is...

There is not a single untouchable guy on our team. We shouldn't jump into anything but it should be considered.

And for that reason I've opened a new thread about our so called franchise player. I think it's worthy of being discussed indeed. Just compare Durant's focus and determination with what we've seen of Hayward so far.

So you're trying to bogart my thread? What? Douche

You just can't give up Hayward, he is too important to the team. You would have to be getting back a top playmaker, which would be very hard to find in a trade.

I don't like to agree with Cy because dude like to argue, but he is spot on here. Hayward fits with every team in the league and is very dynamic.

We are sooooo far away from needing to make a move. We ran into a buzz saw last night who's strengths line up well with our weaknesses. Let's hit the chill button and relax a bit.
