What's new

Hood traded to Cleveland for Crowder; Johnson to Sacramento

I kinda feel bad for Favors. The past few seasons he's been rumored in trades - no doubt that sucks. He's played better than last season - hasn't reached the expectations I once had for him but he's still been pretty good. He seems to be healthy this season and we know last year was injury-central for him.

I appreciate the guy and hopes he keeps playing well and that he keeps playing well with Rudy - I think it helps a lot (for Favors and Rudy) when opposing teams are starting to respect Rubio and actually guard him.

Crowder has been disappointing in Cleveland but this is still a great deal for Utah. Rodney is definitely better offensively, more versatile, but Crowder will fit in here nicely. He may even get to touch the ball from time to time. Watching Cleveland is pretty sad. Cleveland seriously upgraded their roster today, however.

the reasons why they would be chummy have been talked about on this site a bunch, hun.

Sorry, I havent read them. So stupid that I havent read those posts and asked about them. Its so dumb that I thought maybe they played together when they both played for the same team.

Can you please link or bump those posts I would like to read them, so I wont be so stupid again and embarrass you in front of your friends.

Now that Hood is gone, I can let the extent of my disdain for him fly.

Excited to see how a guy who didn't show in almost every game that mattered will play in the situation he's in now.

Softest Jazz player I can think of besides AK.

OK, Hood, here is the keys to the team. First game of the season, you get the Haywood mantle. All you got to do is go out there and be introduced!

Yeah, I don't feel well. Let the Rook go in. . .

Cleveland traded five players today. That's bananas. I hate that the Jazz weren't the team that got that 1st rounder, but the Cavs bettered their odds this year if only because the situation they had needed a very serious shaking up. Way too many egos.

According to Tony Jones, Hood was not going to come back to Utah. Things were apparently getting rough behind the scenes, and he wanted out. To his credit, he still did his job when asked to do so. I imagine the Jazz weren't always happy about Hood's ability to play through pain. But I think the real issue is that Hood is a starter in this league, but he's not on this team.

I get why the value doesn't seem that high, but if we had let him walk at the end of the year, how many people would be clamoring wishing we had just traded him for Crowder. We got an affordable player who can do a lot of things, that will hopefully be ok coming off the bench. If he's not ok with, he's an asset who can be traded easily.

I get not loving this deal, but I don't get thinking that it's awful. It isn't awful by any means. Some of you need to think a little before you react and post.

I think it was either the 1st rounder or Crowder.

Personally, I'd rather have Crowder than a late 1st rounder (24-30), but that's just me. It's definitely an arguable point.

We might have gotten a second round pick swap, you guys! In 2024!!! This totally makes it all good!

I feel like Crowder is a starter, I get a bit uneasy thinking about figuring that out. Especially since I still don't believe in Rubio or Favors (his fit, his being here after this year, his health).

I don't see any way that Crowder starts over Favors. Crowder definitely doesn't start over Ingles.

If there is a player the Jazz were targeting in that range, it might be arguable. If there wasn't, Crowder is far and away the better get. I think the Jazz already have a pretty decent draft board. . .

I haven't read any of that. You clown on someone for not knowing everything that has been talked about here?

That's what I'm saying. I believe Mitchell should be our "1" and Favors is likely gone. It just feels like a bunch of clutter.

Crowder should be happy to be ahead of Royce O'Neale on the depth chart. I have no idea why you think he should be a starter. He's been one of the worst players in the league this year.

I'd rather take Crowder for two years at a good contract than get Hood for 30 games and just walk.

Favors may be cheaper than you think as bigs that don't have range just don't command a lot of value on the open market.

One of the WORST players? Okay.

better than 90% of trades have the potential to work out poorly. The chances that this one blows up in our face is very low. And we're gunning for maximum flexibility (financially and roster-wise) for 2019. The people wingeing about this trade are kinda dumb... the people crowing about it are kinda dumb. This is a solid, low-risk move that emphasizes our strengths in the short-term and leaves us in a good position for what matters most: the next major acquisition.
This move also mitigates an upcoming logjam when Exum returns. Right now, Burks can't get playing time because Ingles, DM, Hood, and O'Neale are consuming all of the minutes at the 2/3. Fine, Burks had a chance to prove himself and he failed, so he can play the part of an insurance policy for injuries.

However, when Exum comes back, he is going to need some backup minutes at the 1 and 2. This means Quin would have to either sacrifice Neto's playing time as the backup point and/or DM and Hood would have needed to give up ~12 minutes at the 2. With the Hood trade, the logjam at the 2 no longer exists, so Quin's job of juggling players' pt just got easier.

Favors is not staying in Utah to be Rudy's backup. Forget about this! Even if he doesn't get a big contract he would rather go elsewhere for a 1 year prove it deal where he will actually have the opportunity to play his natural role, rather than spacing in the corner on offense.
