What's new

Hope none of you live near Saratoga Springs...

Damn. I'm a doucher but I honestly wish anyone dealing with this all the best.

And if there's still time, now might be a good time to call Trout to get an emergency rider thrown on to your coverage.

Pretty sure fire is a covered peril on homeowners insurance without emergency riders.

We live in SilverLake and got evacuated several hours ago due to the smoke. It is pretty nasty out there. Hope everything turns out OK. Not a lot of risk of fire at my place, but crazy smoke levels when we left.

I was once evacuated for a fire in Washignton state. It is a HUGE inconveinence. You are being rushed to pack your car and get out. They give you like 30 minutes to be out. (at least they did that time)

Think about that. You have to get all your needs and valuables for you and your family into your car in 30 minutes. What a cluster $%^&

Yeah, we threw stuff together so fast I'm not even sure I got everything we would need. Ran around the house frantically taking pictures of as much as I could just in case, while my wife packed. Like I said though. Not to worried about fire, mostly smoke. But you do see y house in that video on ksl a few times. So that shows how close we are...

This ruined my day, well, at least my schedule for it.

Nice cop at the road block located at milepost 26 was having fun telling people to go back to Elberta. It only took the great organizers of emergency measures about an hour after started watching to get a highway patrol car at the Elberta junction with Redwood Road. The fire was more than a mile from the road, but the smoke was pretty dense.

They had a couple of helicopter pot haulers dipping into Utah lake and flying over to the fire, plus a big cargo-type plane doing flame retardant, but the wind was beating them.

This is a no-brainer in at least two respects. Target shooters without brains, and, well, housing neighborhoods without hundred-yard circumference fire lines in place since April.

A good friend of mine (who is also a huge Jazz fan) lives right near where the fire is burning. They were one of the 1st group of people evacuated due to this. There is a picture by one of the news crews showing how close the fire is to houses and the houses shown are less than a block from his home.

An hour or so ago he reported on FB that the fire was moving away from his home now but not yet out of danger.

I don't know if they have confirmed it yet but supposedly this fire was started by somebody target shooting up on that mountain.

Wow

I'm sure for those who had to be evacuated that even though their homes were saved that there has been some smoke damage done.

Yeah, it was started by morons shooting their guns. I read somewhere.. I think it was in the Dnews that this is the 20th fire started by guns this year.

I'm pretty sure we need to set up some type of restriction during dry/hot times. People have displayed an inability to use common sense and act responsibly. Shooting guns into dry brush close to homes just isn't smart.

He was actually allowed to go back home sometime last night. They were told that they could be evacuated again but for now he is back home.
