Ruth Ben-Ghiat is one of our nation’s academic authorities on fascism, on authoritarianism in general. No need to listen to the troll claiming Trump is not authoritarian!! And not a fascist. Of course he is.

And Robert Reich:

That 1939 MSG rally. The lesson being that these attitudes are always there, somewhere, among individuals and groups in our society. Ugliness can and does happen. Ugly fascist philosophy is always bubbling under the surface, but it’s been pretty fringe. Until now. With Trump, it’s not fringe, it’s being mainstreamed through his take over of the Republican Party:

Two longer talks by Ruth Ben-Ghiat. Why listen to trolling clowns when you can listen to intelligent discourse?

Trump knows exactly what he’s doing. As Anne Applebaum summarized:

“These phrases have not been put on posters and banners at random in the final weeks of an American election season. With less than three weeks left to go, most candidates would be fighting for the middle ground, for the swing voters. Trump is doing the exact opposite. Why? There can be only one answer: because he and his campaign team believe that by using the tactics of the 1930s, they can win. The deliberate dehumanization of whole groups of people; the references to police, to violence, to the “bloodbath” that Trump has said will unfold if he doesn’t win; the cultivation of hatred not only against immigrants but also against political opponents—none of this has been used successfully in modern American politics”.

Believe your eyes and ears. Trump has been far more successful than anyone else, in our history, in bringing a fascist hatefest into our body politic. Sadly, so many people, ignorant of history, are unable to recognize what is happening WHILE it is happening.
Last Sunday, at MSG, was the climax of this fascist hatefest. The most transparent demonstration yet of the emergence of a fascist movement in the United States. He’s making it harder for those who cannot see what is happening, to see more clearly, should they choose. But, alas, the desire to own and destroy the libs is strong.

He's just a piece of ****.
I didn’t see that red had already posted this video until after.

What does it say about the people who see Trump say this and don’t care? Or the people who see this and actually like Trump more? They’re garbage people, right? What other conclusion are moral people who have just a basic understanding of history to take from this? These are People who have a completely different set of values than I do. People completely ignorant (or worse) of what this type of rhetoric always leads to. You can’t keep stirring your base to anger without there being consequences. It’s why our political dialogue has been completely degraded. It’s why librarians and doctors annd weathermen are screamed at by MAGA. It’s why racists and misogynists feel empowered by him.

So what does this say about his base? Trump is awful. But who are the people who either don’t care about this rhetoric or those who like it? What conclusions am I to make about these people?

1. It's pretty weird that trump literally uses the same exact words and phrases that Hitler used.

2. It's WAY MORE weird that using the same exact words and phrases Hitler used doesn't seem to be hurting his chances of winning a US election.

That's the power of the demagogue and the largely politically uneducated/ignorant populace. The frog content to be boiled alive.

Would be funny if today trump held a press conference and was like "America, I have been trolling you and testing you. I intentionally tried to talk just like ****ing Hitler of all people. I constantly praise the authoritarian leaders of Russia, China, Hungary, and North Korea. I trash America whenever I can. I told you that you were sheep when I said that I could shoot someone on 5th avenue and not lose any supporters. You are still voting for me. You have failed miserably".

And even if he said all that and was completely serious, trumpers would still show up on election day and vote for him lol.

I posted a few times in the last few weeks that I think that trumpers would vote for Putin over Harris if those were the only choices. I didn't see a single trump voter refute that claim. (Maybe I missed it)
I would certainly vote for trump over Putin if that was my only choice. Without even thinking about it.

Both Jordan Klepper and the Young Turks and I think A More Perfect Union have all made videos asking MAGA people at MAGA rallies if they would rather have Putin or Harris as president and it is overwhelming for Putin. Interestingly enough, one of them asked about Orban as well, then they said enthusiastically they would take Orban over Harris, and they asked "who is Orban" and they all said "I don't know, Trump loves him". So they had no idea what they were saying, just spewing the cult party line. Sickening.

I would really love to see one of those youtube guys that go to MAGA rallies ask them if they would prefer Harris or Hitler. That would be enlightening.

The Strongman Fantasy-Timothy Snyder:

Strongman rule is a fantasy. Essential to it is the idea that a strongman will be your strongman. He won't. In a democracy, elected representatives listen to constituents. We take this for granted, and imagine that a dictator would owe us something. But the vote you cast for him affirms your irrelevance. The whole point is that the strongman owes us nothing. We get abused and we get used to it.

Another pleasant illusion is that the strongman will unite the nation. But an aspiring dictator will always claim that some belong and others don't. He will define one group after another as the enemy. This might feel good, so long as you feel that you are on the right side of the line. But now fear is the essence of life. The politics of us-and-them, once begun, never ends.

This proves that you are willing to admit fascism is not a good idea for the United States. Now, you just have to learn what it is, and where it has lodged in America’s body politic. What do you know of “true fascism”? I’ve quoted some of America’s leading scholars of fascism, and you want to pose as an authority on fascism? lol…”true fascism” says scholar PJF…..

We agree! It is indeed weird that Trump and Hitler use the same exact words and phrases seeing as Hitler didn't speak English and Trump doesn't speak German. In fact, I'd say you pulled that fact from your but whole.
