What's new

How do we put our players in the best position to succeed next year?

I still don't understand why everyone thinks we need two teams: 5 starters and 5 bench players. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we only need an 8-player rotation to compete. It use to be unheard of for teams to go 10 deep as part of a normal rotation, but now everyone thinks that is the only way the game can be played. Folks, you only go 10 deep if you have young players in that 9th and 10th spot you are trying to develop like we did the last two years. And do you remember how we bitched about how little playing time Kanter, Favors, and Burks got? We don't care who our 9th and 10th men are because we don't need to play them. So just go with Kanter, Favors, Gobert, Hayward, Burks, Rush, Burke, and Marvin. The rest of the bench should see playing time only if foul trouble or injuries force a substitution.

Rotations:

4/5 -- Kanter, Favor, Gobert
2/3 -- Hayward, Rush, Burks, Marvin
1 -- Burke, Burks
Floater (until Marvin returns): Beidrins, Lucas, Jefferson, or Evans

Not that I don't agree, but we do have to have a coach who can figure this out...

I think you need a fourth big, especially with Gobert being a rookie and the likelihood of foul trouble for Favors, Kanter and Gobert. Evans will Likely get about 10 mpg. I just don't know how it will be with him/gobert (hopefully not Biedrins) as the 4/5 on offense. Maybe they find a way to keep Kanter or Favors in at all times.

I like your other rotation and would love to see it happen like that, but I do think there will be 10-15 minutes for Lucas or McNeal though. I think Burke stays closer to 25 minutes than 33+ minutes for his rookie year and Burks only gets 10-15 minutes at PG per game.

So essentially its 8 guys with 2 others getting 10 minutes per game with potential for more with injuries/foul trouble.

I think Jefferson starts, which I'm actually ok with if it means it pushes Hayward to the two. I'm not a huge fan of him at the three, but it doesn't seem like management sees him as much of a two.

This. Burks will be our 6th man for the scoring punch off the bench. Hayward starts at the 2.

The 3 spot will come down to Jefferson and Marvin.

In our system Jefferson might actually do quite well.

I agree, but why is it that he is better at the 2, and what is keeping him from being a better 3? Anyone have any insight to this?

Because he has no physical advantage at the three. His length and (relative strength) allow him to play the two better. He's overmatched by threes.

Thats was my thinking, but I haven't payed that close of attention, It just seemed he got better numbers as a sg. Another reason getting Jabari or wiggins would be nice, they would keep Hayward at the 2.

I want a starting lineup of:

Favors
Kanter
Rush
Hayward
Burke

With Burks playing 25 - 30 minutes per game off the bench at the two and some minutes at the one. He could be our scoring spark. Would love to see him play a Ginobili/Harden role off the bench.

I'm ok with that. Burks comes off the bench at the 2. However, Hayward is going to have to play some mins at the 3. Otherwise, Alec is limited to 13-15...unless he can also pick up some time at PG. Perhaps Burke gets 25 mins, and JL III and Alec split the remaining time.

Don't disagree with rotations but compete...
gobert 16+min of offensive hole and charity line

burke, burks big if. even then long adjustment period

as I've said before no playoffs many losses
