We're still going to get a top-5 pick. Just wait until the last 20 games - half the teams are going to be playing extra hard to improve their playoff seeding and we will struggle.

WE MUST LAND JABARI!

Even if we start playing better, there's still a good chance that we will end with a bottom 4 record (which looks good for this draft). Remember, we have to play in the ridiculously strong Western conference. Even so, lets say we end up with 26 wins. Who is necessarily worse than us? New York and Brooklyn have no reason to tank since they have no picks, so they have all the motivation in the world to get better. I would assume that they would end up better than us. Orlando and Philly play in the terrible East which gives them plenty of wins. Honestly, I think the only teams that are probably going to be worse than us for certain are Milwaukee (which is an atrocious team) and Sacramento (another bad team in the brutal west). The only nightmare scenario for us is if Philly and Orlando both bottom out hard (hard to do in the east without sitting your best players), or if Brooklyn/New York can do absolutely nothing to turn their season around.

I wouldn't worry about the tank guys. It's still in force. We are very lucky that the west is so strong, and the East is so weak. It almost guarantees our tank, especially with Phoenix having the damn coach of the year.

Welcome to your first season watching the NBA.

Enjoy it!

Tank is one injury away from going full speed and becoming unstoppable. As long as Corbin is in charge we won't win more then couple games on a road and maybe 30-40% at home. That is at best 22-25 wins and top 3 bottom record. I am good with that.

We're still going to get the 14th pick. Just wait until the last 20 games - half the teams are going to be playing extra bad to improve their lotto standings and we will struggle.

This is why I haven't completely lost hope of getting a bottom 5 record.

I'd also just like to point out that Burke isn't going to be amazing in every game. He's a rookie, and he'll have his stints of inconsistency. Plus, teams are going to be scouting him and how to do a better job defending him.

Injuries can happen at any time, and a team with such a lack of depth gets hurt even more by each injury (look at us pre-Burke).

Then there's Lindsey as a safety net. Gotta hold out hope that he'll make a move to save the tank, if it comes down to that.

There's certainly still room for hope of a top 5 pick.

I don't think the tank is stopping. This team still has to play games on the road...a place where even when the Jazz are/were good they struggle at.

Literary Classic written by George Orwell in 1949 about a dystopian society where the government makes it illegal to have opinions that are contrary to the national "consensus." Government slogan is "war is peace ,freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength." In the book, some kids turn in their parents to the thought police and they just disappear. Kind of Sounds like Nazi Germany right? Anyway, many people consider some elements of the book to be prophetic.

It's more than prophetic. It was an actual representation of the methods used by governments to control the thinking of the people they govern. Orwell was important in showing how euphemism hides the truth about unpleasant realities. For example, we now call civilians who die during war, "collateral damage." It's a way of hiding that our errant bomb or missile just killed a bunch of innocent women and children.

Noam Chomsky has taken this analysis further by explaining that since we have alleged "democracies," governments control the people by "manufacturing consent," hiding the truth from people and one of the methods is euphemism.

One of the best examples of euphemism was provided by George Carlin when talked about the changes that were made to the use of "shell shock" in describing the psychosomatic illnesses of soldiers caused from being in battle:

I think the last 5 games are indicative of a rather melancholy truth: We are going to win atleast 40% of our games from here on out which will likely catapult us into the 9-14 range.

We're being 'catapulted' no where. Without the tank we're continuing with right where we've been. A program steeped in a history of mediocrity. The Jazz got in the tank, drove it a while, then pulled out a grenade and pulled the pin while locked inside.

Boom!

Back to reality.

I think it's WAY too early to have a poll/thread like this! Just because the Jazz won a couple of home games doesn't mean they are going to be playing .300 ball the rest of the way!!! This team as presently constituted is pathetically flawed from a players standpoint and a coaching standpoint! Plus, being in the Western Conference as opposed to the Eastern Conference, there schedule is much tougher and will result in plenty of losses ahead! Don't give up on getting that 1st. pick in the NBA draft!

On the other hand, what are the jazz supossed to do? Bench trey and favors for the rest of the year?

Lindsey tried his best to create a team that could tank but the fact is that we might just be too good TO DO A PROPER TANK JOB.

I want a top three pick but I'm not really sure how the jazz can achieve that other than some injuries or just straight up benching The Core. ( if that happened, they would probably not be ok with that since everyone but favors are on rookie deals and want to earn more soon)
