How high is your risk for cancer?

You are a 100% grade A moran. You obviously LOVE the mormon bashing because in every thread you post you preach your garbage and then act surprised when you get flamed.

Why's it garbage? Bad presentation surely, but Mormons live a good deal longer than the average bloke. Let the guy gloat a little if he wants and hop off his nuts.

I wish Dr. Oz would do a special on how to avoid getting Stupid. That would help some posters.

I bring up one little statement about my religion and therefore I am stupid. Again, on this site if someone doesn't agree with you then you are automatically stupid.....A+ on being accepting of others.

Simply stating I felt good about my cancer risk because of my religion set off a fire storm. Give me a freaking break. How sensitive can you all be?

Since you're the one who mentioned your religion and its doctrine, enlighten me on the Mormon church doctrine regarding "anyone if your family have/had cancer?" What is their stance on that? How about the doctrine regarding eating red meat? I am curious to know what the Mormon church doctrine is regarding these cancer risks and you are clearly knowledgable since you "feel pretty good about all of these because they are covered in the church doctrine of the mormon church." Or did you mean the moron church?

Horse****. People who take care of themselves by eating well and exercising live longer than the average bloke.

I didnt say the mormon doctrine covers everything. I just said i feel good about my risks because I had been following these. The word of wisdom states "eat meat sparingly". But genetics plays the most important factor. Mormon people die of cancer all the time. I was just simply stating we can help control some of our risks. I apologize that mentioning my religion offends you.

From the Wiki:

A 14-year selective study conducted by UCLA epidemiologist James E. Enstrom tracked the health of 10,000 moderately active LDS people in California and ended in 1987. Of these non-smoking, monogamous non-drinkers, Enstrom concluded from the study "that LDS Church members who follow religious mandates barring smoking and drinking have one of the lowest death rates from cancer and cardiovascular diseases—about half that of the general population. ... Moreover, the healthiest LDS Church members enjoy a life expectancy eight to eleven years longer than that of the general white population in the United States." The standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) for whites in the general population is defined as 100. For males in the study, the SMRs "are 47 for all cancers, 52 for cardiovascular diseases, and 47 for all causes; the SMRs for females are 72 for all cancers, 64 for cardiovascular diseases, and 66 for all causes." For LDS high priests who never smoked cigarettes, exercised, and had proper sleep, the mortality rate was less. The results were largely duplicated in a separate study of an LDS-like subgroup of white non-smoking churchgoers in Alameda County, California.[57]

I don't see what horses or their excrement have to do with any of this.

It's ********* because it has nothing to do with mormons. Anyone who doesn't smoke or drink and is safe in their sex practices will live longer than the average person who drinks and smokes and ****s anything willing. Mentioning the LDS part is just to make mormons feel good about their choice in religion.

I have a bunch of Mormon friends and we are very accepting of each other. The difference is they don't cram it down my throat or throw it in my face? You get it?

So what is the catalyst for Mormons making healthy choices, if not Mormonism? Are they just naturally elite thinking human beings or what? Why isn't the "other" group making similar decisions at the same clip?

Being Mormon is a choice just like eating healthy and exercise are. What comes first...the chicken or the egg? What about people that are born Mormon, but decide that they don't want to live that lifestyle? What about people that are born without a religion, but decide to become a Mormon because it goes along with their values? Yes, Mormonism promotes good values and a healthy lifestyle, but so does my Catholic grandmother.

And so does every intelligent doctor and scientist, over half of whom don't believe in any sort of higher power!

If I had to choose between living "Mormon" to 90 or living "not Mormon" to 75...

Right....so you agree with Beantown then. All he was saying was he was watching some T.V. program that was outlining how to help your chances avoiding cancer and he noticed how much they aligned with his Mormon beliefs. Maybe that wasn't cool enough that he should have cared to share it on a Utah Jazz message board, but he didn't ever say that only Mormons are healthy people.

Like GVC said, who cares? Live however you want. Hate on whatever religion you want, but you can also acknowledge when that religion does something positive. You can like Mormons because they give lots of aid and promote healthy lifestyles - everything doesn't have to be a disgusted reaction when somebody brings up one positive aspect of their faith.

Indeed. One of the questions in the original posts referred to promiscuity. So let me get this straight: in exchange for not having a bunch of sex with multiple partners while I'm young, I get to spend an extra decade or two being a decrepit old coot? I'll take the sex, thank you.

I wasn't hating on the Mormon religion. I grew up with all of my best friends being Mormon and am still friends with lot of Mormons today. I have family that is Mormon. I was simply clowning on Beantown for trying to get all elitist on us like he always does.

Clearly you misunderstood my post. I was simply saying I felt good about myself because I just happen to be following some of them due to my religion. I was not shoving it down anyone's throat. If I wasnt mormon there is a possibility of me being a heaving drinker/smoker. I believe I would have addictive tendencies since alot of my extended family has. Sorry I was relieved that my risks of cancer seemed upbeat. I just wanted to share the risk assesment questions to inform others. But I guess that isnt thread worthy.

It's good that because you chose to worship in a particular way, you are exempt from the temptations of the flesh. I keep waiting to become a heavy drinker/smoker since I'm not Mormon. I do have addictive tendencies, though. Look at my post count.

Here upon my ramiumtum, I can see how superior I am in regards to cancer incidence and cardiac death. To be part of God's elect group of chosen people, clearly I will live much longer. Knowing this allows me to show superiority and hide my insecurities from a life of being shamed into compliance with the social norms of my people. I am glad that it is religion and not educated decisions that has saved me from a horrible malignancy.

If you really want to get into Mormon doctrine then yes Mormons do believe that we are here to learn how to control ourselves. Our bodies want sex and stimulants. As the BOM says "the natural man is an enemy to God since the fall of Adam". Learning to master body and mind is part of why we are here. In our view.
