In the game chat I mentioned my displeasure with the experimentation at C. I really think we should have tried a couple of things once it was clear that Favors wasn't going to be a net positive and that Withey wasn't somebody we could rely on. The experiment I want to see is Bolomboy. Baptism By Fire, I know; but he has 6 useful fouls and the ability to play 5-out sets on offense (which pulls DAJ out of the paint). The odds that this works for extended minutes are low, but we cannot repeat the plan we had for game 2 and expect to hold home-court advantage through game 4.

I agree. I want to see if Bolomboy's athleticism in the paint can cause some havoc the the way Ibaka's did in the thunder coming out party vs the Lakers in... 2010? Likely not to that degree but you get the idea. If Bolomboy plays this series, I get the feeling there is a decent chance All Jazzfanz gets excited about his future and we go full on "homer" mode

I hope the team is spending every second of practice time between these 2 games doing nothing but hitting a tackling dummy of Jordan and a smaller one of CP3 over and over again until it becomes second nature to just take the dude out when they see him. I want to see Favors go up for the tip and the other 4 guys swarm Jordan at center court and lay that ****er out. You know, the legal way, by shoving 2 hands into his chest regardless of what he is doing with the ball, as the precedent has already been set.

The biggest problem I've seen is defending the PNR. Our help side defense is non-existent.[/url]

This is by design. They are face guarding Reddick and Crawford and taking their 3 point shooting out of the game. This leaves it up to Favors to do it all and he is not Rudy. It is risky to change this strategy as we stole a game utilizing it in LA. I think you'll see only minor adjustments and continuing intense pressure on their shooters.

Each quarter, once the Clips are in the bonus, I'd insert Bolomboy and hack DeAndre every time he touches the ball, or at least when he is about to score. Could buy us a few points in what will be a close series.

The Jazz will probably have to start going under more screens and playing a bit more conservatively to prevent easy penetration. It'll result in the Clippers getting more open shots, but that's preferable to a constant stream of automatic 2 points at the rim.

I think Exum and/or deserves a chance to play. CP3 was running circles around Hill. I think one or both of those guys might be better at slowing him down. Especially if you send them at him in small bursts. They can full court pressure him and really get after him aggressively.

Statistically Exum has played much better against the Clippers than Hill has, especially on defense. It is a small sample size of only 4 games but still shows something. Hill has posted an offensive rating of 96 and a defensive rating of 113. Exum had an offensive rating of 158 and a defensive rating of 105 against the Clippers. Hills +/- of -26 compared to Exums +19.7 also somewhat shows the difference.

I am not saying Exum would be better than Hill but I think he should get a chance and could maybe bother CP3 a little. He has when he has guarded him before.

Additionally Mack has been awful statistically vs the Clippers in the regular season and playoffs. His PER is 5.7. He posted a -39.1 +/- against the clippers in the regular season. His offensive rating against them this year is 51 and defensive rating is 108. I dont see any way Exum isnt better than Mack. Mack might be the conservative option but I would rather go Exum who might be a bigger risk/reward although right now I think worse case he is equally bad on offense but much better on defense.

I think the Hack a Jordan thing could work but it is so boring to watch, although if it got us a win in the series I would be happy.

Realistically we need Rudy back or some hot shooting to win this series though.

I think game 3 is going to put a lot of pressure on the Jazz. Clippers only have to win 1 of the 2 but Jazz really need to win both of them. Hopefully Jazz step up now that the pressure is on them.

Trevor booker would have been useful bout right now, we really should have grabbed a veteran big before the deadline, but I tell yall we are holding up well as long as the three falls. Our D down low, well its not going to be pretty clippers are a bad match up all of a sudden.

hell are we going to stop the Clips from scoring a billion points in the paint EVERY SINGLE GAME?

I mean, the first game was a catch-them-by-surprise kind of game since they had game-planned for Rudy and didn't expect the level of resistance they ran into when he went down. I firmly believe they thought we would just roll over and play dead without Rudy.

And even with them scoring in the paint at will we hung around in the 2nd game. Obviously we have the firepower to go at it.

But if we cannot clog up the paint even just a little bit it is as good as over. 80% in the paint >>>>> 40% from 3, unless you can jack up 30+ 3's at that clip. To equal that 60+ points in the paint, we needed to MAKE 20 3's. I don't think we even shot 20, did we?

So what do the arm-chair coaches think? How are we going to cut their points in the paint to at least 40 (which is a more respectable 3-pointer number required to match...14 makes)?

Edit: of course this goes without saying the assumption is that Rudy doesn't come back within the next few games, or he comes back a bit hobbled.
Oh no! lets jump off a cliff the Jazz lost one game! I love the over reaction of fans sometimes. The Clippers were motivated and played about as well as they could. And won by 6 whole points.

I too think Exum deserves some burn, especially now that we are at home. Maybe if the refs let him play, he can provide a defensive spark. Mack hasn't been a difference maker, in either game.

And will Rudy's knee, if he does return, really hold up to Jordan's physicality?

The Jazz need to attack Jordan on the offensive end getting him into foul trouble and hacking him on D.

One day, you people will realize that offensive/defensive ratings and +/- are useless stats for measuring individual player performances in tiny sample sizes.

Those stats don't tell you Exum played much better than Hill against the Clippers like you're trying to claim - they tell you how both teams as a whole played while Hill was on the court and while Exum was on the court. Which has 9 other variables going into it.

If you don't think they can play considerably better than that, then I'd say you're over-reacting to an equal degree.

In both games we lost the 1st quarter convincingly. They actually played a pretty good game for the other 3. Fix the 1st and we win the series imo.

The clippers are front runners. They will fall apart without a cushion.
