What's new

How is League Pass Broadband?

I just received a renewal notice and the prices have been jacked up this season. The early bird price for the Choice package (pick 7 teams) is $110. The cost for the Premium package (entire league) is $180. I've had it the past two seasons but won't be getting it this year.

First I've heard of being able to select fewer teams to watch at less $$$. It looks like it's only offered on the Broadband, not on the TV NBA league pass. Bummer.

Another question:

What seven teams would you guys select if you were going for the cheaper option? I'll only have six of course, due to one slot being taken for OUJ. I'm thinking Heat, Porty, Boston, Chicago, two more?

I can't emphasize enough that if you have a DVR, trying to cut costs isn't worth it. The games are so, so, so much more enjoyable when they're recorded on DVR. But I can't take not watching the games exactly how I want to. I'm extremely immature that way.

Not sure why everyone thinks that $180 for an entire season of NBA League Pass (TV package + broadband) is overpriced. You're basically paying only $2.20 per game (assuming you will only watch Jazz games, and ignore all the THOUSANDS of other televised NBA games during the season). So...for what someone would normally spend on a fancy super duper caramel mocha frappacino latte, you could be watching TWO Utah Jazz games in HD. Seems more than reasonable to me.

Now compare that the NFL Sunday Ticket package. $370 for the entire season ($320 for the TV package + an EXTRA $50 for broadband). That breaks down to a whopping $23.13 per game. That's more than 10 times what you'd pay for a single NBA game with NBA League Pass. I love football as much as the next guy, but those prices are a bit too steep for me.

I don't have any TV service. So it is Broadband only for me. $180 for that alone is a tad too much I feel, especially when they state that HD is not available for all broadcasts.

Has anyone heard about the new prices for this season? I signed up for the early bird special but haven't heard anything from NBA.Com about the packages yet. I was hoping to pay for it and catch the preseason too!

The HD thing completely sucks ***. I RARELY get games in HD as a subscriber. But I've always blamed that on Time Warner, not the NBA, and I'd love to urinate on Time Warner's front door every single day if I could. I'd rather pay parking tickets than give them my money, but I don't have any other options.

You're absolutely right...been there, done that. Time Warner sucks. I am so happy that I switched to Directv a couple years ago...

So when can you actually pay for the service this season for broadband? I'm getting antsy!

Preorder is available now. Check my recent post on previous page for link or merely google nba league pass. 109 for 7 teams. 180 for all 30.

Oklahoma City and the Lakers, at least if you like rooting against teams.

I've had it the last 2 years, but have no intent on getting broadband again... especially with the price hike.

First reason is that you are lucky to get 60 games after you factor in blackouts (ESPN/TNT/ABC/NBATV/Local opponents) and technical issues... then subtract 3 or 4 games due to extremely choppy streams which make the game practically unwatchable. (this always seems to happen in the 4th quarter of close games)

Second reason is that you don't get to see any pregame/postgame/halftime shows... and most importantly, broadband access goes away once the playoffs start. If you're going to have to watch the playoffs on an internet stream, might as well get practice finding/using them in the regular season.

Third reason is that free internet streams are getting easier and easier to find these days... and often the quality of the streams are as or nearly as good as what the NBA is charging $100+ for.

Finally, as some others have mentioned, don't count on too many HD quality streams. Last year, with comcast, I was getting fewer than half of my streams in HD... though I don't really care about that issue.

All in all, I'd say that if money isn't an issue, and you really want to make sure you can maximize the number of games you see, then it's worth it. But if money is an issue, I'd consider trying out free streams before shelling out the $$$ for NBA broadband.

I can't seem to get NBA.Com to let me pre-order. It just gives me the sign up for email reminder notice page. Starting to get mad!

This is what sucks. The people who switch to DirectTV have to live with DSL where I live. For my life, DSL won't work. I'm dying to switch to DirectTV but I don't want to pay jacked up rates for cable internet on top of it. And since cable is somehow granted bizarre local monopolies, I only get one cable provider to choose from. That provider is Time Warner and I have violent dreams about them. Without the threat of competition, they can suck, they know that, they do suck, and they still get my money.

just to let yall know

League pass broadband allows multiple computers to be logged in under the same user name at the same time,(I did this last year). therefore you guys can get togother and share the price and just share the username password details.

Which one of us would be willing to be the host account and as such would have to possibly reveal his or her credit card information, home address, and real name to the other people he or she shares the account with? That's the problem with sharing. I know I wouldn't want to host, but I'm down for splitting costs.

I would be careful with that though. This is the 4th or 5th year of Broadband and they may have snuck a clause in the TOS about cancelling shared accounts. Just read the fine print before agreeing on anything.

Why do you have to have DSL? You can have cable. You just have to pay an extra amount for not having cable TV. That, or they just require you to have basic cable TV as well.
