What's new

How much has Al helped Favors and Kanter improve over the course of their early careers?

Someone on the coaching staff needs to tell Favors to face up as soon as he gets the ball in the post and either make a move quick or swing the ball to the weak side. When he does that he seems to convert at a lot higher rate and get fouled at an extremely high rate. When he posts up he looks like a complete mess. I don't have any numbers to back this up...just going off the eye test.

He's just not strong enough to push his way to the rim. Face ups, quick moves, and baseline faders will work better.

One of Kanter's turnovers against Charlotte was classic Al: Enes tried to back down his defender, held the ball too long and turned right into a double team. I actually laughed when that happened.

He is Al slow at times, but in his defense, he resets a lot, passes to the open guy on the arc way more than Al, and can actually draw a foul in the double team. He's so damn strong that he just bulls his way through it where Al would prefer dancing around it.

The thing that pisses me off about Favors, is he hasn't went out and won the starting spot. Yes, I think he should be starting right now personally, but there is a argument to be made that his offensive productivity won't make up to what Millsap can do. I honestly think if he went balls to the wall not just on defense (which I think he does) but also on offense. If he went for every offensive rebound and tried finishing after he got it I think he would be scoring 20 a game along with playing his dominating defense. He is just as bad as anyone with standing and watching during offense. As bad as Al is about holding the Ball, Favors still needs to make cuts. I rarely see him cut to the rim.

I just wish he would step up and take the job by dominating on both sides of the court so there would be no question. And I know he can.

I agree with this ....I think the main reason Ty doesn't trust Favors is 1) the turnovers and 2) the fouls. He's gotta improve those.

He's improved FT shooting which has allowed him to be on the floor during clutch and this is very impressive (D12 STILL hasn't done that).
Hopefully he keeps at it. I think the NBA game might be too fast for him at this stage in his career. He had a stint this year where he was more calm and relaxed on the court and that really improved his game. Favors needs to model his game after Tim Duncan and let the game come to him. I've noticed when Favors is angry, he usually sucks. He needs to stay calm.

offensively, favors is showing growth. its not eye-popping but it is there. He has shown that he can at least hit the jumper from 18 ft on occasion. he has shown a definite improvement in ft shooting (which is a big deal for big men). he's shown many new moves (that dont always produce points, but have the chance to do so in the future). Favors gets so many fouls because he plays shot-blocker ball, and is over-aggressive. he jumps to block every shot that's near him. he has been getting better at not leaving his feet around the pump-fakers, but it is still in need of improvement. But at this stage in his career, if you want him to foul less, you're intrinsically going to want him to block less shots.

As far as kanter, i think he has been playing scared for a long time. Not scared of the spot light, but scared of Corbs. For basically his entire first season, all he was good for was crashing boards, making painfully timid passes at the top of the key, and getting his **** packed on 1/2 his shots. I think the biggest milestone he has reached is not playing so scared.

I love it when you don't troll.

Oh who am I kidding. I kind of like it even when you do.

After i read this, i just was ready to cry, BIG-AL is really a GREAT guy...

BIG-AL: "I work with Big Turkey and Favors all the time on it," he says. "Yeeeahh. They athletic now, but one day you're legs are going to leave you so you got to bring out your little tricks. Why not have it now when you're athletic? Derrick Favors and Big Turkey do a great job with it, especially Turk. I could teach him a move tonight and he'll pick it up like that."

Especially that shows, how much talented Kanter really is, thanks to BIG-AL´s quote...

BIG-AL:"I would never tell (Kanter) this, he does it better than me. He makes it look better than I do." Jefferson laughs --- heh-heh-heh. "I'm glad those guys are learning something from me."
