How Much $$$ Should Jazz Throw at Austin Reaves?

If the Jazz do make that offer, the Lakers have to either:

A.) let him walk for nothing at the price we’re comfortable paying him.

or

B.) pay him $11.4 million in 23/24, $11.9 million in $24/25, $36.8M in 25/26 and $38.5M in 26/27 - the exact season that the Jazz will then own their ‘27 pick.

Heads, Lakers lose. Tails, Jazz win.
Yes but as I had said earlier with the $38.5m in 2027, if in 2026 they didn’t do well in the playoffs and payroll is getting to be too much, the Lakers might be incentivised to blow it up Summer 2026 and tank in 2027 to keep their protected pick.

They can't assure that they would keep the pick. There is a 52% chance it stays top-4 if they have the worst record in the league. But if they want to try then they are welcome to. I'm happy to have a ~50% chance at a high draft pick in 2027.

Would anyone trade the 2027 Lakers 1st top-4 protected back to the Lakers to ensure they didn’t match any contract we offered Reaves?

Nah rather keep the pick. Reeves is good but another draft pick plus the cap space to do something else is way better imo.

Why wouldn’t it be possible? It’s a sign and trade.

And yeah, I probably would. He passes the eye test with flying colors but his advanced stats are insane.

I would try and get ‘em on a JC sign-and-trade (+#28?) after giving them a brief heads up that the Jazz will max him.

The one problem with that is you can’t trade a player to the team who signed him to an offer sheet for a full year.

LOL at the doubters. When the eye test matches with almost unparalleled efficiency and eye-popping splits, you know something's up.

(Arenas) Maxing him (or parlaying that into SnT negotiations) should be item one for free agency. The Lakers would be stupid to let him go but they are still run by nepos that had the audacity to suggest that Russell Westbrook was their best player last year.
