They can't assure that they would keep the pick. There is a 52% chance it stays top-4 if they have the worst record in the league. But if they want to try then they are welcome to. I'm happy to have a ~50% chance at a high draft pick in 2027.
Would anyone trade the 2027 Lakers 1st top-4 protected back to the Lakers to ensure they didn’t match any contract we offered Reaves?
Nah rather keep the pick. Reeves is good but another draft pick plus the cap space to do something else is way better imo.

The one problem with that is you can’t trade a player to the team who signed him to an offer sheet for a full year.
Right, that’s why you give them the heads up: to open the negotiations.
But since LAL can offer MLE only, they can't realistically even do a sign-and-trade, can they? Not one that Reaves would accept.

Can we make offers to both him and Rui? That will make it pretty rough for them to do much else with their roster for awhile. He has looked great in the playoffs so far.

We should've traded for Rui before LA did. He'd have been a good experimental piece for this year's squad.
I would say GG's medium outcome would be a more athletic Rui Hachimura.
