How Much $$$ Should Jazz Throw at Austin Reaves?

I kind of keep forgetting about him, as if he's already gone. I don't currently see him as a winning player, although I think he is closer to a neutral player than I had previously thought going in to the season last year. I do think there is a decent chance he has a great off season and surprises me next year.

The thing that keeps sticking with me is that it felt like he was having a great second half to the year, but then you look at his stats and they were basically his career averages. I think he's just so up and down that they cancel each other out.
He's still our best perimeter defender at the guard position for bigger guards/wings and our best passer. He has the highest upside on the roster at the PG position (barring what Keyonte can show this year).

It's just super strange to me people actually want him to opt out.

How much more handcuffed would the Lakers be in matching Reaves if someone hadn’t gifted them cap space in return for THT’s $11M?

I'm just not a believer and so for me the question would be what could we do this year with the extra cap space from THT opting out vs how likely is THT going to improve this summer.

I would definitely like to see what THT can do next year, but if it means not being able to do something I like more, then I kind of get people not wanting him to opt in.

Lakers match that instantly but they only have 24 hours to do so.

The max we can offer is 4/98M. We would only need about 25M in cap space to do that.
Can we front load to make if more difficult for Lakers to match? Not sure if you can still do that or not. How we lost Wesley Matthews back in the day.

No, we offer a straight 4/96 (1/4 of the total salary per year, no increases or decreases), they pay 14/14/34/34 (ca) if they match.

He is also the worst at numerous things (shooting and turnovers)

No wonder teams are calling left and right for his service…

You have to admit, when things are going well for THT, he can look amazing. So skilled and athletic. You can imagine how good a player he can be if he learned how to shoot better and play more under control.

Yet morons want him gone

I get it. He hasn't shown enough improvement so far in his NBA career. The prospect of adding someone tried and true at the PG position is appealing. Although I'd hate to see THT figure things out and explode on another team.
