What's new

Howard gets the starting nod again!!

I don't like Howard starting either, but it's really not a huge deal. As long as the young guys get minutes, what matters most is who plays how much and who finishes.

This .. especially if you're not anticipating winning the season.

Lol, I had a dream that Utah won the series. Imagine that, eh? Imagine that....

Wow, 5 pages and no one yet stated the obvious: Howard is getting a try-out. His contract ends this year, and the Jazz would like to see if he has anything left in his tank to keep him. His regular season performance was uneven: sometimes he played well and sometimes he was quite bad. The playoffs are are a different kind of animal and he gets a chance to show what he can do. As well as Carroll.

There is no harm in it: everybody understands that the Jazz is going to lose to the Spurs in any case. Carroll and Howard both will play as many minutes as possible and whoever plays better will be offered a new contract. And that is exactly the reason why Bell is not playing - he is already signed for the next season.

...we all got EYES! We already know what he can/can't do....we watched him throughout the season. He's a puke! Resigning him would be like throwing money down the commode!

All three of our current SFs are coming off the books: CJ, Carroll, and Howard. And Hayward is obviously more comfortable playing the SG. No way the Jazz will let all of them walk hoping to sign 2-3 wings via the free agency and trades - they will try to keep at least one. They know what Carroll and Howard can do in the regular season, now they need to see what they can do in the playoffs, so each of them will get 15-20 minutes every game.

I've been bashing Corbin for months. I don't get him. I truly don't understand. It is now obvious that the only reason we even saw the "big lineup" is because he had no choice. I'm not sure this guy has the balls to sit down vets for younger/better players. He tries so hard to act like Sloan and gets it wrong anyway. Our best lineup got **** for minutes in game one. Don't be surprised when they play less than 10 minutes in game 2.

If we don't see the big lineup for at least 20 minutes per game the rest of this series then KOC needs to seriously fire Corbin this off season and go find a real coach.

You don't use the playoffs as a ****ing tryout for next season. This is a completely moronic point. Whether you think you are going to lose or not. If a coach went into the playoffs with this mentality then he should be fired IMMEDIATELY. Not after the season, Not after the playoff run. At the exact second the GM suspects this is what he is doing.

A few people said that it doesn't matter who we play since we will lose this series no matter what. That is probably true, so like someone else said: Play the young guys who are our future since we will lose either way.
Everyone has been talking about how wonderful and valueable the playoffs are because of the experience gained... Howard already has experience so he doesn't need to play. Start favors or burks instead of howard. Give favors, burks, hayward, and kanter as much playing time as possible, i mean we already lost our draft pick so our young guys can get this wonderful boost of playoff experience and we are wasting it on Howard?
I want Burks, kanter, favors, and hayward to get as much of a taste of these playoffs as they can so we can really make noise next year. Howard should play zero minutes unless our young guys have fouled out.

I don't know if this is true, but this is the freaking playoffs, this is what the team gave up picks for, shouldn't the tryout stage of the season have ended 3 days ago?!?!?

I am comfortable with Burks and Hayward taking over the wing positions next year anyway, more than comfortable, this is what I want to see.

One thing I would like to point about Howard is that he is an excellent defensive rebounder. Carroll might get a couple more hustle offensive boards, but Howard really helps solidify our defensive rebounding. Howard is our only wing player who consistently crashes the defensive glass.
Except Millsap. Oops guess you forgot about him. People don't really want to see a lot of Carroll. We want Millsap at SF with Favors and Jefferson. If Carrolle and Howard are playing SF that is less minutes for our best lineup.

I don't think the uproar over this would be that bad if Howard or Carrolle was playing. But with both of them getting minutes it is taking minutes away from our best lineup.

I agree with all of the above Except giving up on Corbin so soon. I how much passion corbin has and intensity. I think the players like him. I think he deserves a few more years before being judged even though he has make some bad mistakes..... I mean we are In the playoffs when no one thought we would be.

We made the playoffs in spite of corbin, not because of him.

LMAO

People are losing their minds over this. I see why too.

Remember when Sloan refused to to bench Brevin Knight even after he had missed something like 27 shots in a row, and the dude was terrible? This shizznitt will make you go insane. Why the hell do these coaches do this to us?

I have learned to temper my expectations. I figured when Howard got the nod in game 1 it would likely be repeated. I won't be surprised when he starts for the entire series regardless of his contribution.

That is exactly what makes coaches and GMs different from the fans: the long-term vision. In several days the organization will need to make a decision on who are they going to try to keep. And it seems that the Jazz gave up on Evans already...

You are taking a completely unfounded assertion as fact.

More likely it is not a tryout, Corbin thinks Howard starting is the best choice to win the next game.

Marionette Corbin strikes again - as he has managed to do ever since Sloan's departure. Grow some ****ing balls and do the right thing instead of becoming a Jerry Sloan clone.

The problem with Howard is that his mindset is on what he used to be able to do and right now he just isn't at that level. He needs to play within himself and not chuck up shots that have little chance of going in. If he can do that and get himself focused the way Carroll does, then he should be ok. I don't know what the coaches are telling him, but if I were the coach, I'd say stop taking those dumb shots and look more to create for your teammates. And the first time he chucked, I'd yank him.
