Long but worth every letter and word.
NBC has eight networks showing the events for the Tokyo Olympics:
- NBC
- NBCSC
- NBC
- CNBC
- Olympic Channel
- Golf Channel
- USA Network
- Telemundo
I get to see every second of the Olympic. Wall to wall coverage. You want to watch women's preliminary heat of the 200 meter backstroke? You got it. You want to watch mixed doubles table tennis? You got it? You want to see dressage (horses prancing about)? Yup, you can watch it. How about number one tennis stars Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka? You can watch their matches. You want to see Iran vs. Nigeria in basketball? You got it. . Everything is being broadcast.
Oh, wait a minute, one thing is not being broadcast - the USA men's basketball games!
Those bastards at NBC have taken one single thing from the Olympics - men's basketball games and moved it to a streaming only service. OK, I'll fill out all the email password stuff and do the streaming thing. Peacock streaming service. No, not enough. The only way we can watch team USA basketball is we have to pay. Not just subscribe to Peacock, we have to join Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus. $5.99 or $9.99. Forget the price. It really is pennies, but think of what NBC has done. How nasty it is. Just one thing in the entire Olympics is placed on a pay-per-view basis and it is the one thing that most Americans would want to watch. Not only that, think of the people who live in struggling communities. Do you think they are just running to subscribe to Peacock Premium? A kid from Detroit who is a fan of fellow Michiganite Devin Booker wants to see him play representing the USA. Good luck, kid. You have to get your parents to sign up for Peacock and then pay just to watch a basketball game.
And the real slap in the face comes when you turn on the TV and right now you can see Nigeria vs. Australia game! NBC broadcasts that, but team USA they don't broadcast! Yeah, sure, I am going to watch a tournament game in a tournament in which I can't see the number one seed play. Does NBC realize the ratings bath they will take from those other basketball games? Who the hell will watch if we can't see USA games?
I can't believe they did this. The anger is real. There's just one thing from the entire Olympics that must be paid for -- USA basketball. Haven't we had enough bullcrap this past year and a half? And some of us have it better than others, but think of the poor who now can't even watch their favorite players playing their favorite sport unless they pay to join Peacock Premium.
I can't believe they did this. Way of the future. youtubeTV is already broadcasting a few exclusive baseball games. I won't live to see it, but down the road you can bet that you will have to subscribe to a streaming service - pay a monthly fee - just to watch your local sports team. This USA basketball pay scam is really just the first shot fired. Can't watch it unless we pay to join some bullcrap streaming service which I will never watch. Oh, but I can watch Taekwondo. Thanks NBC.
