What's new

I booked a condo between Gateway Mall and City Creek

Bruges Waffles and Oak Wood are delicious, and safe for the less adventurous. Blue Nile is okay Ethiopean, but Mahider on 14th and state is better. There's an over-priced Brazilian buffet at City Creek. Worth trying for the rich carnivore. There's also an Italian restaurant called Michelangelo's on Main that I tried once and loved. But I recommended it to a friend who did not have a good experience.

Thanks, Siro.

I am a VERY adventurous eater (anything/everything) but my wife is by far the opposite. Sometimes I will go with her to eat and then we leave and she goes where I want to go. Drinks and drinks.

Opinions vary, but Takashi is a pretty good sushi place. Sapa is okay but better for drinks and the atmosphere.

I'm not sure if you've spent any time in SLC but Red Iguana is a dive that has good Mexican with a focus on various mole dishes. But my favorite dish there is the Tacos Don Ramon.

My sister-in-law was in town and we decided to try a few new places. The Beerhive is kind of lame. Not as much of a beer selection as you'd expect. We just got nachos and they were complete garbage. Desert Edge Brewery was interesting in that they serve beer on cask and the cask beer they had was bitter, so I was pumped about that and it was good beer. But the food was Sisco all the way. They try to make it look fancy but it's low quality cafeteria food dressed up. So don't go to either of those places.

The Bayou is kind of meh on the food, kind of cajun with some regular pub food like burgers and the like, but they have an enormous beer selection and a full bar.

The Meditrina can be pretty good for tapas.

Whiskey Street is good for drinks. They have food, too, but I didn't order food when I went.

The Red Door is a good Martini bar.

Thanks, GF.
Definitely hitting up Red Iguana.
I've been to Takashi many times and think it's very good.

The condo we have is in the fourth floor of a tapas restaurant named Finkas (I think) and the menu looks good... but we'll have to see if it's any good.

Squatters is my favorite place. I like lucky 13 and Proper Burger although they are a little south of downtown. Its not the best sushi (its decent) but I like the environment at Ahh Sushi. I think Koko's kitchen is really good asian food. Zest is really good food and has some fun different options. It gets weird on the weekend if you are there during their awkward transition to a night club though.

Lucky 13 is so much better than Proper Burger, which I do not like.

Lucky 13s burger is a bit better, the rest of the menu is about the same. I do like some of the burger choices at both. The beer selection and bar at Proper is much better. I do not like the environment at Lucky 13 personally but they do make a great burger, so I end up there. I like the bar area, the staff and the beer at proper a lot. I never eat at the burger place though, I put in an order and walk to the bar and they bring me my food there.

I agree with all of that (except the "bit" part).

Spitz is awesome. The curry-er food cart is good. Bocata at the city Creek food cart is really good. Food truck Thursdays at the gallivanting center are awesome. They usually have kotaco or cup Bob there.

Dr. Jones, I'd love it if you tried Cupbob. I think it's pretty meh, but it gets crazy good reviews.

Not sure if this is going to come through, but here's my yelp review for them: https://www.yelp.com/biz/cupbop-kor...opup&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=(direct)

Looks like it doesn't work. Anyway, here's the text from my yelp review:

I had heard about this food truck so when I saw it at the Taylorsville Days festival I gave it a shot. I got spicy pork. My wife got beef.

They asked me how hot I wanted it and I said 10, the guy acted like that was insane and that I should tone it down to an 8. From the way he acted I figured a 10 must be laden with a handful of chopped thai chilies or something so I went with it and got it at an 8. Lame! They have a spicy aioli and sriracha. I can drink that stuff when I'm thirsty. What they called an 8 I'd probably call a 4. So I suppose the number scale just determines how much sriracha they add.

The food in all our cups was pretty bland. There is a lot of noodles and rice compared to the rest of it and they do not add enough sauce to cover it all. I'd suggest not mixing it together. Take a scoop of meat and get as much noodles and rice as you'd like to go with it and eat it that way until you're down to bare noodles and rice. It won't take long and you'll end up tossing about half the container.

For drinks go to Bodega, ask to go down stairs to their speakeasy, "The Rest". Most unique bar in SLC.
