What's new

I got bad news about Marvin Williams

i'd be happy if they used al to get a better backup PG and a big man who could play 15-20 mpg in the kanter role.

Yes. Agree completely.
Those are the two remaining holes (if Kanter shows he can be a legit starter). I think we're good with EITHER Watson OR Tinsley as a backup vet PG. But we need a young one to develop, hopefully someone who will be the starter 3 years down the road. And the Jazz still need some bulk inside. If not a true 7 ft'er, at least someone who brings a physical presence.

And if Kanter never blossoms? Well, I guess you move Favors over to the 5 full-time and bring in a big PF

i'm not talking about a 4th big man based on kanter starting. i'm talking about favors & sap starting, kanter gets moved up to the favors 2012 role (25-30 mpg as the third big) and we just need a fourth guy to fill the kanter role.

kanter isn't going to go from 13 mpg to a starter playing 35 minutes.

Big Fes in the fourth role anyone?

Different team, different teammates, different coach, different environment, different Williams.

As I said in another thread, this is the type of change of scenery trade for a guy with unrealized potential, that often turns out really well.

I am very optimistic about this.

If it doesn't work out, the risk is small, but when compared to Howard, Bell, CJ. There is a lot of room for optimism.

I dont want to try and get another 4th big. I wanna see Jeremy Evans damn it.

If we move Al its to clear room. Not change things. We might as we keep Al if thats the case

You know who else was a bust on their draft team? How about Favors???

There is a very real possibility that Williams will have a similar change to what Favors had coming here. He gets a little respect, he gets the ball passed to him, and he is friends with his teamates. Oh, and the fans cheer for him rather than boo him.

Besides, he's not making an unreasonable amount of money for what he's putting out, in fact I wouldn't be horrified if we re-signed him for the same amount when his contract is up ASSUMING that he improves his game by about 25%.

In order to get picked in the top 3 a player usually has to have certain raw talents that cannot be learned. He has these talents, Millsap doesn't. No matter how hard Millsap works, there are some things that Williams can do that he can't.

(not that Millsap doesn't bring great things to the table, in fact if Williams spends some time with Millsap and picks up his work ethic, Williams might actually come close to his potential. hmm, guess i'm bandwagoning.)

Agreed. Even Demarre Carroll has the same story...

Can't underestimate fit with players entering the league. Busts usually have the talent and end up in the wrong situation as opposed to wing severely overrated coming into the draft.

Look at Boozer in Utah vs Chicago, or Ben Wallace in Detroit vs. Orlando. Talent can easily be held back because of location, expectation and role.
