What's new

I hate Lil Wayne with a passion, but...

Eminems music has had actual meaning and depth to it. Not that Im a fan of his, but he actually raps about things. Lil Wayne raps about being rich and makes poop jokes.

As a 40-something year old guy with probably 100 rap/hip hop songs in my library (90 of them are from 1986-1992), I have to wonder "What makes a good rapper"?

I don't know a good rapper from a bad rapper, but I know a song that catches my ear and I am down with O.P.P. and I like to do the Wild Thing, sippin' on gin and juice. Word to your mother.

IMO it's all about cleverness and making words come together. Lil' Wayne says a bunch of stupid stuff that any 1st grade class could come up with on day one. Lil' Wayne, The Game, Ice Cube, and Obie Trice are examples of terrible artists who are given great beats and have marketable rap voices. They're nothing without the money/industry behind them. The Game is made by Dr. Dre's beats. Ice Cube is a genius at maximizing his resources. But do they ever say anything that's exceptionally clever on a best in the world scale?

Although I am not a rap/hip hop fan, it will take a helluva song to beat out "Love the Way You Lie" for my choice of song of the year. Cee Lo Green is close.

Haha, THE GAME terrible? F that. He's up there with M&M for rap that actually matters.

Ice Cube? "Today was a Good Day" is a great song, cant really comment on his other stuff though.

mainstream rap sucks. underground hip hop is where it's at. if i didn't have a sprained thumb i would make a list of good artists, but its just too awkward to type like this...

The contraction "Lil" bugs the **** outta me.

Rappers and musicians and reality stars that use nicknames instead of their real names bug the **** outta me. Like "P Diddy" or whatever he calls himself now. Your ****ing name is Sean!! What the fetch is wrong with the name your parents gave you?

Kind of like people who use a handle on a Jazz fan message board instead of their real name?

How can you not like Eminem?

His whole discography is amazing. From Infinite to Recovery, its just him in different stages. His lyrics and beats are top of the line. So difficult to name Eminems top ten. Regardless my top rappers no order, Eminem, 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Jay Z(?)
