there is no bigger fan of hayward than myself but i completely with locke when he says:

Gordon Hayward is going to have to figure out how he is going to score in the half court in this league, is it as a shooter, is it off the dribble, will he be able to score in the paint or will it have to be pull ups.

this teams struggles to score and so this should be an open invitation to hayward for him to shoot and shoot often. right now his games is mainly points in transition (layups, putbacks, dunks on fast breaks). he has got to be much more proactive in the half court set about trying to score in different ways. i am still holding out hope that he can do it (second year player) but given his lack of productivity i am getting concerned.....

Here is the problem. When hayward is in the starting line up Al and Paul take most of the offensive plays. When he comes of the bench and plays with CJ, CJ thinks he is one bucket away from getting his game back and he dominates the ball on offense! Either Hayward needs to grow a pair and let the offense move through him, or Ty needs to tell CJ not to shoot the ball!

If he's starting in the Jazz system, he needs to knock down those off the curl jumper on a consistent basis.

If he's the 6th man off the bench, he needs to be able to score off the dribble, making cuts, hit occasional 3pts. Make occasional players off the dribble.

I think things will become clearer once we drafted Lillard and Miller. I foresee:

PG - Lillard
SG - Burks
SF - Miller (he'll hit those off the curl shots all day long)
PF - Favors
C - Kanter

6th man - Hayward

Never understood the Locke haters. He gives great analysis, and I agree with just about everything in that post.

I think people hate Locke based on him trying way too hard to be cool during interviews, play by play, youtube videos, rather than his knowledge of the game.

I want you to be right, I wish you would be right but its KOC and the Jazz we are talking about. Last year the 3 & 12 picks in the draft were going to make things better and that hasn't really panned out yet.

And since its KOC doing the drafting the Jazz will probably come away from the draft with two pf/c players and then trade Hayward and Burks to Toronto for Ed Davis and have the obligatory Press Conference where the Jazz say that they really liked Davis all along.......

You act as if KOC's a complete failure and that our rookies haven't panned out. Meanwhile, Kanter's in the top six in the entire league in rebounds per 48 and Burks has shown absolute studliness at times. Their lack of playing time has absolutely nothing to do with KOC who, if anything, seems to have hit two home runs with those picks. Obviously you don't feel that way so who would have been better picks in your opinion?

Everyone in the world knew Kanter was drafted as a super young project without any competitive playing time, and Burks was a shot in the dark that was last year's weak draft, but who cares about context?

I agree to a point, but isn't it nice that Hayward has the ability (at least the potential) to do all those things well? I would definitely like to see him shoot more to open the floor up, but I also like seeing him go strong to the basket. He has the potential to be a very complete player, and he's very unselfish, sometimes to a fault. We have been saying at home that Hayward does a lot of the same things AK used to do, but without the injuries and massive pricetag. I'd love for his "specialty" to be shooting, and I want him to do it more consistently, but not at the expense of the other aspects of his game.

Chilax man, we're closer on this than you realize. I wasn't knocking on Kanter or Burks, ( or Hayward, blessed be his name). The point I was tyring to make was that most of us had high hopes for this team because of the last draft and that really hasn't worked. So 4 lottery picks in 2 years and the team is below .500 and out of the playoffs-- two more late lottery picks in June are not going to change things.

I was also making fun of KOC for collecting pf/c. And the jazz for adding players that they could have drafted. (Boozer, Jefferson, Howard, Carroll)

We do disagree on one point. KOC can control playing time. Trade away Raja and AL and watch Burks & Kanters minutes increase.

Damning and conclusive evidence that he doesn't know basketball.
