You said you were coming to Utah. Lies!

On a serious note. I've never been to L.A., but I did go hiking at Muir Woods when I was in San Francisco and it was amazing. You'll have a grand ol' time at Redwood Forest. Update us. My sister and I are planning a trip and we're debating between New York, L.A., Orlando (Harry Potter theme park!!), and a cruise.

The 'rents weren't cool with Utah, sadly. I shall update you though, promise :)

One more thing I will recommend. If you want to go to a beach to body surf, then go to Huntington. I have never had decent waves at Newport or Seal Beach to be honest. Then again, you can just go to them all if you feel like it. Oh and if you somehow can(fake ID or what not) and want to party some night, then check out the famous 7th street in Long Beach..... It will surely be full of drunk hotties. So if you get the chance, I would check it out.

Teehee. Judging by the fact that I will be with my family for most of the time, 7th street might have to wait for another year. Sad, but not much can be done in that regard. Me and my older brother both don't drink as well, so wheeling drunk hotties would be rather classless from a sober-perspective (Sorry Wes)

Nice road trip, sucka! Good end choice though, I think. I love L.A. Don't worry about any areas to avoid. LAX Airport is right by the Hood(as is USC) so you guys wouldn't be the first people to get off course if you were to cut through one of those towns. There is a killer shoe store in Compton that I go to frequently and I've explored quite a bit of the area. I'm sure it's a tough enough place to live in, but Hollywood has certainly oversold the dangers of those areas.

Leaving for LA tomorrow. Going to a Rangers/Angels game next Friday. We will be driving to San Fran, to check things out.

any last ideas people? Many thanks again for all of the suggestions.

PS: My hotel is maybe 50 metres away from the Lakers headquarters in El Segundo. Graffiti ideas?

Put a Jazz logo on it. Right on the front door, a giant jazz logo.

NYC! (not even close)

Are you guys actually NOT going to any theme parks? I don't think that's bad or good, it just would be an interesting diversion from the typical first time L.A. traveler is all. If you guys want some cool hiking/exploration spots and a chance to escape the crowds that you'll see in the beaches nearer to where you are staying I suggest:

Probably my favorite place in the world. Just some downright awesome trails at those places. A lot of offbeat stuff to find. Cool caves, water holes, horse trails, best surf spots , whatever you want to do in the outdoors. It's good stuff.

Itenirary is still gonna be mostly game-time decisions, unfortunately. The Dalamons are not the most organized of people.

We will be going to Universal Studios, and Legoland (maybe sea-world too, once we're in San Diego). Not gunna bother with Disneyland, in all honesty.

From what I can gather, our trip will be mostly: exploring the Los Angeles city and most of its unique tourist attractions, shopping, hiking, and hanging out on the beaches. Thanks for the recommendation Duck!! I'll definitely have to check that location out. The redwoods are currently at a 50/50 probability of being visited by us, so I'm not quite sure. I'll make sure to remind everyone how awesome they are, P.

The same map the Hillside Stranglers used I believe.

Did you live in the area? I lived in Simi for 5 years.

There's a place in the canyon just above Ojai that we liked to hike to that had a decent waterfall and a large bowl at the base of it you can cliff dive into. The hike was fairly strenuous (especially when you are toting a 4 year old most of the way) but it was a pretty cool place.
