If Boozer is re-signed…

…trade Millsap for Gortat?

A re-signed Boozer will absolutely need a defensive center to play alongside him. I would hate to see Millsap go but if the Jazz commit to Boozer, it’s Sap not even AK who seems the more tradable piece to get an obtainable defensive center like Gortat.

The Magic could use Sap (although they already have a similar player in Bass) or a 3-way trade could probably find a 3rd team take in Sap and send somebody else to Orlando.

What’s left of post-injury Okur will then come off the bench to play alongside AK, who’ll back up Booz and play some SF.

Deron, Price
Matthews
CJ, Hayward
Boozer, AK
Gortat, Memo

If Boozer is resigned then AK is gone for sure. Otherwise Jazz are way over LT. Jazz would have to trade AK for someone getting a much lower salary to get back under LT.

Much easier said than done.

A big expiring contract like AK's is valuable if you’re willing to take in equivalent longer contracts. If you make an under-the-cap team absorb a big expiring (such as Gugliotta some years back) for nothing, or less than you’re taking in, you have to package something like a promising young player or a pick that looks enticing (like the NY one with eroding protection).

I honestly don't see the Jazz trading Sap just to hang on to the defensive goofball boozer.

What has Gortat done exactly? I'd demand a future first rounder and maybe more in this scenario.

Gortat has shown flashes and supposedly just looking for a chance to get minutes, also just 26. If he was already a proven commodity, we won't be able to trade for him using an undersized albeit truly hardworking PF. I agree though that the Jazz should get more, such as also a protected future 1st.

If Boozer returns, Millsap becomes the most likely to be traded, not AK. The Jazz might prefer to trade AK, but Millsap will be 100 times easier to ship off and get something in return. Given AK's salary and contract status, they can trade him, but they won't get as good a return.

No way we resign Boozer unless we have some serious trade negotiations involved. Amare just got 100 million. Boozer should command probably at least 80. I also bet that he wants a good 5-6 year deal, which should be waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too much. I can't wait to see how many games Amare misses due to knee and eye injuries in NY. Lets not be retarded too.

If the Nets strike out with this summer's free agents, wouldn't that seem to be a good fit for Kirlilenko? A 2nd round pick would be nice compensation (right at the top of the round).

That was my knee-jerk thinking too but I think we exaggerate the Russian connection.

That Russian is a businessman and it would be folly to pay $18 million to rent AK for a year so he can have Bird rights. He can wait a year as the Jazz aren't extending AK and then get him for less than half next season. NJ strikes out of the FA market, they probably prefer to suck another year for more lottery balls than pay somebody $18 million while still missing the playoffs anyway.

And that NJ 2nd rounder is likely a no-go. Those high 2nd rounders are valuable. Miami even traded their 18th pick and Dequan Cook for OKC's 2nd rounder in this year's draft.

Where do you get your info that they wouldn't extend AK? LINK? please don't make crap up.
I think they will do all they can to keep him, just not at a max deal.
I also think AK is very comfortable in SLC and would be looking to stay.

We should walk away from AK as fast as we can when his deal is up. I am tired of a guy who plays for 41 games a season and only shows up for 28 of them.

...you sound like a guy who should join me on my anti-NBA rants! Are you looking forward to the long lockout of these clowns as much as I am???

How about a 2nd round pick and $18M in cap space?

there's no such thing as "cap space" for the jazz... no matter what happens with kirilenko, they're over the cap. you could say "a 2nd round pick and $18M in salary relief," but cap space doesn't mean anything to the jazz until at least 2012.
