If Boozer is re-signed…

Where do you get your info that they wouldn't extend AK? LINK? please don't make crap up.
I think they will do all they can to keep him, just not at a max deal.
I also think AK is very comfortable in SLC and would be looking to stay.

You can't extend contracts with lower salaries. An extension for AK would start at a minimum of 17,000,000.

He's quite right. The Jazz will not extend Kirilenko.

I don't see where extensions are required to be a raise. Feel free to cite when you state.

"The salary in the first year of an extension to a rookie scale contract may be any amount up to the player's maximum." [Including a drop in pay.]

I could see AK wanting to play for NJN, and I can see him wanting to stay--and being offered a salary in the nine figures range. Or maybe he goes back to the homeland.

That Russian is a businessman and it would be folly to pay $18 million to rent AK for a year so he can have Bird rights. He can wait a year as the Jazz aren't extending AK and then get him for less than half next season. NJ strikes out of the FA market, they probably prefer to suck another year for more lottery balls than pay somebody $18 million while still missing the playoffs anyway.

Well, where did you get your news that the Jazz will extend AK? For AK to get an extension, they’ll have to do that before he becomes a free agent next offseason. There’s not even a whiff of a rumor to indicate that.

Especially with new golden boy Hayward at AK’s natural spot, I thnk it’s common sense that AK will very likely be a free agent next year. The Jazz and the Nets could then go after him if they want -- but not before then. The point again is that there’s no rush for NJ to absorb his $18M this year despite the owner being Russian.

Ak hopes that he will stay after his final season in Jazz. and will be waiting for Utah to make a new contract.

I read this from his blog.

Millsap for Gortat is indeed an intriguing idea!
Pairing Boozer with a C who can play D would be a good move. Gortat has seen PT and looks like a solid all-round C. His offensive skills are well above Howard's, i.e., he's got a jump shot, and he has good hand/foot movement for a big man, can run the floor, and can rebound and block shots. What we haven't seen is how consistant is he over a full season?
My suspicion is the Magic would rather get Boozer, as he is a better inside post player. They already have the best interior defender in the NBA. I think that would be better for BOTH teams. Howard could definitely cover up Boozer's defensive liabilities; not sure Gortat could...

If you were the Jazz would you consider offering Boozer the 6th year in something like 6y/75M? Which is better than what Chicago could offer at 5y/67M 13.5(I think that's the limit on what they could give him)?

I think 5 years should be the limit. If I'm not mistaken, as his own team, the Jazz can still offer a bit more in terms of annual percentage increases than any other even if the length is the same.

....if Boozer re-signs with the Jazz for more than 10 million and more than 2 years......we ought to slit our throats and be done with it!

Much easier said than done.

A big expiring contract like AK's is valuable if you’re willing to take in equivalent longer contracts. If you make an under-the-cap team absorb a big expiring (such as Gugliotta some years back) for nothing, or less than you’re taking in, you have to package something like a promising young player or a pick that looks enticing (like the NY one with eroding protection).

That's what I've been saying. It's not going to be easy to "dump" AK's contract. Getting rid of Harpring's cost us a first - and Matt's contract was almost fully covered by insuranmce. How many teams will be $17M under the cap? And those that are will demand, what...Haywood and some cash in exchange for paying $8M of AK's salary? A team UNDER teh cap has ZERO incentive to deal for AK. A team OVER the cap, and especially OVER the luxury tax threshold has a ton of incentive. DON'T re-sign Boozer or Korver and the JAzz can take back ALL of AK's salary. Or, best case, maybe they only take back $15M and that gets the Jazz UNDER the tax threshold, while also adding 1-2 good players and maybe a mid-1st rounder.
