What's new

If Gordon would get tossed for fighting back, who is supposed to respond?

yeah, don't get me wrong... i'm not calling him a reggie or even a harpring. but here is more from his teammates who think gordon knew exactly what he was doing:

bell:
You are the instigator sometimes; sometimes you're not. But when do just enough to get under somebody's skin and you play woe-is-me when they lose their cool, you've won. If you can do that, that's a crafty game you're playing there.

more bell:
It's a testament to [Hayward]. He plays hard, he plays tough and he plays physical. Like I've always said, a lot of guys in this league don't like that. You can get into people's heads real quick when you do that.

howard:
Kudos to Gordon for getting up under his skin; it actually helped us out in the long run. He went out of the game. He pretty much didn't have the normal type game he'd had. From what we'd known, he was having a pretty good five-game stretch right there. For Gordon to get in his head like that is pretty good.

gordon himself:
He bumped me and it's, 'OK, he's obviously frustrated.' Then when he did the second one, it's like, 'Man, we've got him right where we want him.' ... We got the last laugh with the win.

i don't know if he had some master plan or not... i just know how it turned out. gordon had 24 points and the jazz won, delonte west was on thin ice all night and the mavs lost. so i'm going with all's-well-that-ends-well, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

Let's not forget that Dirk keeps trying to punk Favors. They both need to push them back.

I am noticing that this rivalry between these two teams is heating up. I'm really starting to hate Dallas. They think they are the bullies on the block or something.

Like I said, I'd love if that's the player Gordon was, I just think it'll manifest itself further into his career. Obviously we are seeing glimpses of it now, just not fully convinced that's his intentions starting out. Either way, I'd still love him to shoot West a little smile across the court, like "alright Lil brother, now you're getting mind ****ed".

I think most of us agree that Hayward acted correctly. It is just disappointing to see that no one stuck up for him. I want the Jazz closer knit than that.

I totally understand what you're getting at, but I think, for this particular incident, the whole team handled it correctly. No need to get bent over a little childishness. If West had done something truly harmful, perhaps the reactions would have been different. But not letting that little bitch have the satisfaction of getting under anyone's skin was the best thing they could have done. IMO, the Jazz kept the mental edge, and that probably played a big part in getting a hard fought win.

If they get Dwill that will make them a huge rival.

It's particularly annoying that Dirk can't go a single possession without crying about getting fouled.

Ahhhhh, NOW i get it! I was lost as to what that meant until I had some clarification/translation of Advanced NBA theory/history/terminology. Tell me more!

....watch an episode of "The Big Bang Theory" and listen to the guy named "Sheldon!" He'll set you straight on it!

Their star has faded. This rivlary will be over before it begins.

Weak sauce.

I was ticked that they didn't send Evans or someone else in the game to absolutely clock West. let him get suspended and pay his fines.

A day later I'm thinking it was handled correctly. I've calmed down and don't want vengeance. I wouldn' t have been disappointed if Sydney Lowe had gotten thrown out of the game and I'd wouldn't mind seeing a fine or suspension, but I'm at peace with it. Hayward is a stud. He did the right thing.

On 1280 someone mentioned in an interview that Hayward seems to like to get people riled up. He said that one time he was playing tennis and a guy got so mad that he threw a tennis racket at him :) I really like the Hayward guy, can we find 5 more of him please????

I also think Hayward gets people riled up. I like that. However it needs to be known that you cannot put your hands on him. I do not want Hayward in a fight and I think he was smart for walking away. But it needs to be known you cannot put your hands on a Jazz player.

The good ole days. It may not have happenned as an immediate retaliation, but guys knew it would eventually be coming.

Yup ^^^^^^^ Ol' Karl had the elbows, and you never knew when you may be on the receiving end.
You know when he was on the team, somebody pulled the crap that West did, Karl wasn't going to forget that. West would have been on the receiving end of one of Karl's inadvertent (wink wink) elbows sometime down the road.
I do wish that Hayward would have been at least a little vocal with West, but really he did end up getting the best of him. I told my wife when it happened, that Gordon seems to have a way of getting under the other players skins without looking like he's doing anything. Very Reggie like in that sense. So to me, he's doing a great job of mind screwing the guys he's playing enough to provoke them into doing stupid stuff and taking there-selves out of the game. Very smart guy Gordon is. Hope he keeps it up.

I think he gets under people's skins because he plays this, 'who me?' role.

Like, "I don't know why anyone would ever be mad at me, I just play good clean basketball." ... while getting his in here and there.
