If Jazz draft Kanter, then hire Karl Malone

The funniest fact of all this discussion isbthat almost all the players from 9 to 30 all have weaknesses and I would dare say all are risks and most will end up at best as rotation players. When you draft Jimmer you KNOW he will make a good rotation player. Some one that will be able to score off the bench.

Stockaolypse you seem to forget 2 things that are important to this argument.

1- this is an extremely weak draft class
2- great teams are made up of 8 1/2 players 5 starters and 3 1/2 subs if you knew you could fill one of those spots for years to come wouldn't you do it at 12?

All the rest are/were solid starters. I see Jimmer's ceiling as a shooter off the bench. If you disagree with that (Jimmer's ceiling), then fine. But don't tell me capable starters can't be found at 12 and then when history shows it can be done change the argument to stars. Wiggity whack, ya know?

I just looked at the history. Limiting it it exactly the 12th pick is stupid. Just because other teams **** up pick 12 it's ok if we do? If its guaranteed to be what all the players at 12 have been lately we might as well forfeit the pick and save money.

I never said we need to find a LeBron or Howard at 12. Why you brought that up is beyond me. Just like setting up straw men for yourself? I said we should be able to find a CAPABLE/SOLID STARTER at 12. The history backs up that at 12 there ARE players AVAILABLE who fit that mold. If you think Jimmer fits that, just say it. I disagree.

Good argument, I think history shows there are players that could or should have been chosen at 12 that are solid. Meaning with the 12th pick your franchise has a chance of getting a starter worthy pick. Even if the 12th pick itself has been a little weak. I disagree that Jimmers ceiling is a back up shooter. I think back up shooter/scorer is what most experts and people expect but I dont think any expert would say he has 0% chance of being a solid starter. I think his chance is just as great as anyone's at this spot right now, but I think KOC will make a more educated decision than I would. I think this draft will go down as a decent draft but right now its just a crap shoot of players even at the top. Irving, williams and kanter could bust and some late 1st could become all stars. This is the case every year but this year it seems the decision is much harder when looking at players individually.

History shows you can get a SOLID STARTER at pick 40. What's the point? Jazz shouldn't be expected to get a starter at number 12. Should be getting a contributing player.

You don't KNOW that. Just because you're a dead-eye sharpshooter in college doesn't guarantee you success in the NBA. What ever happened to Salim Stoudemire? If you go back even further, remember a guy named Steve Alford? These guys were all sharp shooters of the same mold as Jimmer (scoring guards in a point guard's body) and they never panned out in the NBA.
