If KAT becomes available should Jazz be interested?

I think Ainge was referring to preseason (it was his justification for tanking late)....so yeah, different players it seems like. There was a report about the broke boys wanting to cut salary, KAT would be the natural choice there if not Rudy.

I'm honestly still intrigued by KAT. Health is the concern with me, but I still think he's an elite talent.

Health and mentality/personality are big concerns for me with his contract. He seems to melt in nuclear fashion too often. Does that change with age/maturity? I'd also be looking at the surgery he had. Think he opted for the shortcut version. If all that is factored into the price then fine... go get him. If we kinda look past that to get our shiny object at full sticker price... I think its a bit rich for me.

I don't think I have seen a single post with how much some of you pro KAT guys would be willing to give up for him. What kind of trade would you have in mind? For the wolves any KAT trade is going to have to bring back at least 1 or 2 really good win now pieces locked into decent contracts for a few years plus some future picks.

Based on? If KaT is traded it's because he has to be traded to satisfy whoever owns the team pockets so all you have to do is beat the best offer

A fair trade for Towns would be the packages we received for Don/Rudy or comparable. I think Don was probably a seen as a higher valued trade piece than Towns, Gobert maybe less so but Towns is coming with a lot of injury concern so maybe he is seen in less regard than Rudy when we traded him. Both Don and Rudy yielded a recently drafted rookie, non terrible matching salary that included some youth, 3-4 firsts, and some swaps. That is what it takes to get a star player on a long term deal.

Unless you think Towns is in a drastically different place than Rudy or Don when we traded them (you could argue Don was much higher, but Rudy was close and actually got a similar//better package than Don), there really shouldn't be any mystery as to what the cost would be. We have two great ballpark examples.

I don't think a better player than Towns will become available that is also under long term deal, it's the best we'll get so if we are truly looking for a star he is probably the best guy we can go for. I don't have any concerns about a fit with Lauri, I do have concerns with his health and still some lingering concerns about his mentality....but I think he has matured some. If the franchise wants to get a lot better real soon, I think Towns is the best it will get.

I'm not sure paying the fair price is better than the tank route....with or without Lauri. If MIN is in a situation where Towns will be traded on a discount I think that is the more appealing option, but I think there will be a bidding war and Towns will yield a package that he's worth.

That's not how trades work. If Minny trades KAT it's because they have to. Whenever you make a trade under those circumstances, you arent going to get the best offers.

I would say that your version is not how trades works. It's the highest bidder regardless of the incentive to sell. You're only going to get the discount if there are no other buyers.

Minnesota wasn't significantly worse when KAT was out with injury this year, which should tell you enough about his impact on winning.

Roster construction has a lot to do with this. KAT is very efficient, but Ant needs the ball and has become their number. And Gobert and KAT together has been a mixed bag.

Could KAT and Lauri persuade other players to sign here? I'm guessing it would be a tough sell, especially with what Minnesota would want back.

We'd have him for his "prime years" but his value will start declining a lot after a few seasons.

Obviously the answer should be based on what we have to give up to get him.

If you can trade Clarkson, Keyonte and a few picks, it may be worth it. A front court of KAT, Lauri and Hendricks could be decent on both ends. They'd also need a good floor general to be a top tier team.

My guess is Minn will demand more for him than he is worth.

Yes and no. We are further away obviously so would realize bigger gains from having him than they would (well that would be the theory).

Idk… I was actually pleasantly surprised he fought the urge to melt down yesterday. The game was so physical and there were some obvious fouls that went uncalled. He kept himself way in check. Will continue to monitor but that’s been one of my issues with him was just inability to control his emotions.

Again, the Wolves are not trading KAT for a star. If they are trading him it's because it's an ownership issued mandate and the most important goal will be saving money.

Ideally the Wolves would want to take back as little current money as possible, a bonafide veteran on a good contract, draft pick(s)/rookie contract player(s), and expiring contracts.


For the Jazz that would probably look like Sexton and some combination of picks. I just dont think the Wolves would be interested in Collins salary, so that would make a trade tricky as you would have to route Collins to a 3rd team which would probably cost the Jazz.
