I think NJ really wants to secure a top flight PF. It adds a legit veteran and fans in the seats, and increases their chances of getting Lebron. I'm not saying the Nets would leapfrog Chicago in the sweepstakes but they'd be right there with them with a Harris, Boozer, Lopez trio, a lot of cap space, an owner who will spend it, and Brooklyn right around the corner. So if they really do want a vet to jumpstart their progress and hopes of getting Lebron, who could put the best offer together?

Utah-Boozer, Hayward, Tomic's rights, Memphis 1st rounder, salary exceptions, our own future picks
Toronto-Bosh, Derozan, Ed Davis, Solomon Alabi, Belinelli
Phoenix-Stoudmire, Lawal, Lopez, Clark, Richardson

IMO, Utah has the most to offer. We have the Memphis pick and Tomic's rights and neither Toronto nor Phoenix has anything similar to that as far as I know from the research I did. While I think there's better perceived talent on the other teams, why would the Nets want Stoudemire and Lopez when they already have the other Lopez? Too redundant. Phoenix wouldn't trade Robin Lopez anyway imo. What about Bosh and Davis or Bosh and Alabi? Still redundant. Maybe, the Nets would do the latter and develop Alabi but still. NJ is weak at the wings and a Boozer (cheaper than the other two players too) + Hayward for Favors may get it done alone. Maybe we wouldn't even have to trade Hayward as well but regardless, if NJ wants to be aggressive and get a proven all-star to help in their quest for Lebron and immediate improvement in the wins column, which trade partner makes the best sense?

I would agree that on the surface it looks like we have more to offer, but according to KOC we tried using assets to move up yesterday and had no takers. I wonder how good the Memphis pick and Tomic would appeal to the Nets given that information.

I'm not saying this is the case but perhaps Thorn and the new owner didn't want to rush a trade. Maybe they put feelers out there, got word that Favors had the best trade value and took him for that reason and because he'd be a great fit at the 4 if they don't/can't trade him. Then, come July 1, maybe they'll try to get a feel for what Lebron is thinking and if it's evident he's leaning to another team, maybe they pull the trigger with one of the three teams above to get a legit PF and therefore persuade Lebron some more.

Lebron wants to win and win now. He'll need vets to do so, not just young pups on a team, so the Nets may try to secure one of these all-star 4's by dangling Favors. If they don't get Lebron too, they then go after Carmello next summer.

Please post what team you selected and why by the way. I selected Utah because what they could offer would be the cheapest (say Boozer + Hayward) and be a wing/stud PF combo to fill two glaring needs. They also have the Memphis pick and Tomic's rights.

I think the Jazz have the assets, but my question is: How long before Favors contributes as a starting PF/C? Everything I've read on him say he will probably take a few years to produce at the level he is projected to.

Defensively I think he can be a factor right away. Offensively, he had horrendous guard play at G Tech so his 13 ppg is more like 16-17 on a team with relatively solid play. As an 18 year old, I'd take that. Regardless, what's the alternative? To pass on a major, major talent who has the defensive presence and length we've been looking for? We need to make the move for him.
