If there was a Jazz Basketball God

He would fire David Locke as the Jazz's play by play announcer. Locke has some crazy, well thought out stats, but it doesn't make up for the fact that he doesn't have the pipes or the whits to be a good play by play guy, and you're lying to yourself if you think otherwise. I cring everytime I hear him and my ears bleed.

The other day I was driving home listening to the Orlando game and had to turn it off. I couldn't take it. He blabbers on and on about something, meanwhile you can hear the crowd reacting to something on the floor and you just wish Locke would tell you wth was happening on the court.

"Checking in for Orlando is Billy Bill, he stands 6 foot 11, from the University of someplace, [crowd erupts in the background] they were a pretty good team that year, entered the NCAA tournament and made it through 3 games before eliminated from contention by a team led by NCAA star Ronny Ron Ron [crowd erupts again] who will probably be drafted next year, and also I had corn flakes for breakfast today..."

Shutup and tell me what is happening in the friggin game.

Locke would be a perfect pregame and halftime show guy. You nailed it.

He was good as the radio halftime guy and the post game show host. His regular radio shows(when he actually cared about them and hosted them) were the best local sports radio around. Even his tweets mid game are good. He is just pretty average to below average at calling the game's radio broadcast. He might be better on the TV call where he wouldn't have to describe to everyone like we are blind.

I understand the irritation with locke's style but I concur with kicky. Locke had one of the best 5 minute stretches in broadcast history when Matt Bonner had an incredible hot streak against the Jazz in Utah this past season. He said something to the effect that "bonner is dominating the game while never actually jumping up off the floor." He than moved right into a story about how Bonner is a notorious cheapskate and that he actually saves all subway tokens for each NBA city (that has a subway) for use all year long.

I have to say it was off the charts funny.

OK, that stuff is good stuff. Just don't do it while someone is making a nice pass and basket, when the crowd is reacting and you want to know what happened.

I like him. Obviously he isn't better than Hot Rod, but Hot Rod retired years ago. He was sort of mailing it in on many nights. The new 'enthusiasm' of Locke is refreshing, and it sounds like Boone is refreshed by it too. Dude points out a lot that you can't see for yourself listening to the radio.

That's all well and good, but he needs to keep in mind that we, the listening audience, can hear the crowd. When the crowd gets loud we can tell something happened. If he's blathering on about something else it really irritates me.
