If we get a shooting guard at 12 - PICK Thompson

Thompson is a spot-up shooter. I think we're better off having a more versatile SF and Hayward at SG. Thompson is basically a Korver.

Don't the Jazz need a spot up shooter. The ESPNU guys at the combine were raving about Hamilton. The thing I like about him is he is extremely versatile and can rebound very well and is a scorer/shooter. Any of the guys on my sig at BPA at 12 I'd be happy about.

Ever since Horny retired, the shooting guard position has been a black hole. I really think Hayward is not a SG and we would be better off using the #12 pick getting the best SG available. Thompson, Hamilton, Burks, all have good size. They have to be better than Raja.

How high is too high in this draft?

Folks, we're not getting Lebron at 12 in this draft.

Historically in the last 10 years, the #12 pick hasn't produced any star players and very few decent role players.

We need to stop thinking Lebron and Dwight at 12 and start hoping for Gerald Henderson or Xavier Henry (last two #12s).

No, no as in he was suspended for a game for smoking pot.

Last I checked the Jazz didn't quite have very many shooters at the end of the year.

Would you prefer CJ or Raja to this guy?

Lastly, why is it so important for Hayward to play SG? His natural position with his height and length is SF imo.

It's better to have too many shooters than not. So why not? At #12 we could do a lot worse.

Last time I checked both of the Jazz's only SFs could leave at the end of this year, and even if both stay, both are seen as players we generally want to have their minutes cut down at a very large rate. I would much prefer him to Raja or Miles but I feel like our hole at SF is more profound than the one at SG. Besides, Raja might have a better season coming up (he still shouldnt start by any means, nor do I like him at all). Lastly, his "natural position" certainly isnt SF since he doesnt really have a natural position; He played guard right up until college, and plays 3 positions well. In my opinion (and most others) it is quite obvious that he could do the absolute most damage playing as an SG than as an SF. I could see Hayward outplaying Wade in a game much easier than seeing him outplay Lebron. In my opinion we have a player who could seriously cause whole sorts of problems for other teams' 2 guards by developing at the 2, whereas him becoming a 3 would sort of place him as not as special. Plus, Hayward defended 2s over the course of the season much better than other teams' 3s.
To finalize, it is more improtant to have great team-defense than perimter shooting. Hence why Id use my 12th pick for a defensive ace, whetehr thats singleton or biyombo.

Drafting Thompson would mean having to move Hayward to SF; dont you think Hayward would play better at the SG position? Its the biggest reason why I havent been looking at SGs in the draft.
Why does the #12 pick HAVE to be projected as a starter?
We need shooters. Klay can come in behind Hayward as the backup SG this season. If he deserves more PT in 2 years, you could have Hayward slide to the 3 for 10 mins/per. CJ probably won't be around after this season and we definitely DON'T want Raja getting any PT. So a SG would be a consideration. If he's the BPA, take him. Then go SF with the GS pick next season, trade for one, or use the MLE.

I agree we need shooters. But Hayward was drafted to create mismatches as a SG. KOC talked about that before the draft. While not mentioning Gordon by name, you know that's who he was referencing. Hayward will be the starting SG next season...GUARANTEED!

In fact, it wouldn't surprise me to see CJ dealt at some point. Won't happen at the draft because there won't be a CBA in place. But I could see KOC dealing CJ and the rights to the 12 pick for a starting SF. Maybe throwing in Bell to make salaries match if needed. Of course, that assumes the Jazz don't get Williams.

Even if Hayward is put in as the SG of the future for the Jazz, why do we assume that everyone we draft is going to start and finish their career with the Jazz?

We need shooters, desperately. If Thompson is a good shooter, and arguably the BPA at 12, lets take him! He can come off the bench. Having too many shooters is a good thing.

If Thompson comes in and is a really good player, our bench is strengthened. Perhaps he overcomes Hayward as the #1 SG for our team. No one knows if Thompson might actually turn out to be better than Hayward. Or perhaps Hayward has a career far better than Thompson. We don't know yet!
One of them could be traded. Or we can keep both of them and create mismatches.

The point is, we shouldn't draft inferior players because we "already have" Hayward. I'm getting tired of people suggesting this.

Go for the best player available, strengthen our team, let everyone compete for their minutes, and later trade them for other parts (if necessary).

This is currently the most annoying non-issue amongst Jazzfanz. This made up rule that Hayward has to play SG and that we have to draft a SF.

I understand your logic with choosing the BPA; personally im just all for sterngthening our team defensively; its not like the jazz averaged 80 points a game last year. We have a 20/10 guy with al jefferson, we have two 15/8ers with harris and millsap guaranteed, with favors and hayward potentially entering this category as well. In my opinion there is two things we lack in this team: Strong Wing players, and mroe importantly good team defense. I dont care whether we take Leonard, Biyombo or Singleton, id just prefer either of the three to join our team regardless of who we pick at 3. Seeing as Leonard and Biyombo will most likely be out of the question by pick 12, and Singleton is a former ACC defensively player of the year, him being selected at pick #12 makes the most sense. It has nothing to do with filling the void at SF, we can do that in the offseason.

I agree, people on this forum make Hayward into the next Larry Bird. Yes, he improved greatly over the last two weeks of the season, but the Jazz were completely out of the race, we only had 8 players on some of the games, and there was no one left at SG. I can't imagine Hayward ever averaging more than 12 PPG.

Leonard and Biyombo will most likely be gone by 12.

Singleton should definitely be considered.

I don't understand why so many jazz fans consider Hayward untouchable. If we're sitting at 12 and the best player available is a SG/SF, we'd be retarded to not draft him.

The worst case scenario would be that both Hayward and our draft pick develop well and compete against each other. Strengthening our bench and then becoming trade bait later on.

Horrible thought I know.

So lets keep it real. Lets send Hayward to the Dleague to develop and lets continue with Raja and AK. We all know they'll be all stars together if they can stay healthy. And we'll win the championship once Al Jefferson learns the offense...

Your reply has nothing to do with Dwill's post. Good job though.

Serious Question. Are you on any meds?
