What's new

I'm all in for getting Gay

The Jazz had 3 players in the top (unqualified) 50 of USG% - Alec Burks (25.9),Gordon Hayward (25.7) and Trigger Trey Burke (25.3)

With Favors(70th) next with a 23.9 and Hood(125th) at 21.5.. (Lyles[225th] was next at 17.9)

Rudy Gay for his career is a 24.8% USG Rate player..

meaning Gay, in a contract year is primed to come in and be a ballhog and Barnes is primed to play a role and then expand on that.. Barnes was just 23 this season, there's still upside for Barnes!!

If we could land Harrison Barnes, we'd be nuts not to pull that trigger. What PG_AB is saying makes perfect sense. Where the minutes would come from, rotation fit, team fit. Can't believe this is a debate.

I think maxing Barnes would be a mistake. We pretty much all agree that we need a 3/4 though.

not sure where you'll find minutes at the 4 behind Favours and Lyles.

The idea is to hopefully snag a 3 that'll be fine with a bench role, be able to body up big 3s (or 4s in switches) and hopefully be somewhat of a threat from 3.

I'm not really for Gay or Barnes. Signing Conley is probably the only max i'd be considering.

Favors desperately needs a PG who can competently run a pick-and-roll. He'd average 20 a game in half of the teams in the league with his finishing and shooting ability.

Trevor Booker's minutes??? He played 1600 minutes(in 79 games) 5th highest on the team..

Lyles played 1400 minutes(in 80 games) they're not going to play him much more than 2000 next season unless injury occurs..

With Favors ability to play 5, Rudy's health affects the depth at the 4 too..

If they need a 3 at the end of a game.. Hood, Hayward, Barnes and Lyles, with Ingles inbounding is pretty damn good..

Taurean Prince could fill the role at SF you described easily btw.. They could trade down for him, he's one of the more NBA ready players in this draft too.

Having Barnes would be wonderful. Having Barnes under a max contract is a mistake.

That's what I meant when I said a 3/4. Rudy gay would be the guy that in my mind would take a backup role with starter minutes in a winning situation. Or we could have hood take a bench role for a year or so. Those two plus Hayward would make a pretty sweet three wing rotation.

I don't see much hope in obtaining Conley. Barnes, on the other hand, will undoubtedly leave GS; they can't afford to match a max offer sheet.

Exum (25) - Burks (13) - Mack (10)
Hood (31) - Burks (17)
Hayward (32) - Barnes (16)
Favors (14) - Barnes (14) - Lyles (20)
Gobert (31) - Favors (17)

pgab, do you see the minutes being distributed something like this? because if so, no thanks. there is no way i want burks at the point for 13 minutes a night and i highly doubt favors will be happy logging 17 a night at the 5.

if this is not how you see the minutes being distributed, then please show us how they would be.

Anyone who thinks we should max Barnes is high. Anyone who thinks we should cut rodney hoods minutes and send him to the bench for harrison Barnes is high and drunk.

There is no way I would ever prioritize harrison Barnes over rodney hood.

They'd play together.. how in the world is it prioritizing one over the other?? Hood's rookie deal isn't up til 2018..

Hayward, Barnes, Hood Rudy and Favors all getting 30mpg a piece is feasible...

Barnes with a max and starting over hood though?

For the record, I like Barnes. Off the bench. And for less than the max.

Barnes hasn't even turned 23 yet.. If there's one thing I know watching the NBA for years it's that he'd still be tradeable at that price..

There's desperate teams out there, and the Jazz signing Barnes would be the rich getting richer..

The dollar amount is inconsequential, it's affordable and a massive upgrade when you look at the minutes distribution.

I havent gone thru the whole thread but the initial thought is that Gay would be a good signing. We need to spend money and he could help us score.
But his PER is just 15, which is average. I havent watched him enough to say how great he is, but I've heard he isnt the best shooter.

He's still under contract with the Kings for next season, this thread is about trading assets to get him as a rental..

I listed nine purposefully. The other guys shouldn't even see the ****ing court unless they're looking for a teammate's dropped contact lenses.

Barnes is young, big, somewhat athletic and can shoot the ball. However, he's soft and doesn't have a killer instinct. I complain all the time about Hayward not being able to carry this team, but by comparison, Barnes makes Hayward look like Michael Jordan.
