What's new

I'm just going to go ahead and say it

No doubt, but lets not put some crazy comparisons on a 2nd rounder from a small school that hasn't plaid a game in the NBA yet

The thing is, he doesn't have to have a great mid-offensive game to be succeed right away. That will only make him better. He can score, but the Jazz don't need him to, and that's what makes him so deadly. Just throw it up to him and let him do his magic. After the game, he said that his mentor is Horny. If Horny can teach this kid how to shoot, he would be like a very poor man Kevin Durant with a little more hops. I'm not comparing the talent, just the bodies.

Howard is 6'10 tops. He's just the best athlete at the 5 by a mile with a big body for 6'10. Evans isn't going to play center in the NBA, anyway. He's a tweener 3/4. He's years away from being a starting caliber player. But it might be fun seeing what he turns into.

I don't know how the hell some of you are comparing him to Dwight Howard or Shawn Kemp. Those two guys are/were pretty strong inside while Evans is a stick.

As long as we're making him out to be a superstar, why not compare him to Chris Bosh? At least their bodies are similar.

If I had to pick a player, he reminds me of a young AK47. Remember the days when AK had the quickness and desire to change a game?

Evans isn't THAT skinny. His weight is deceptive. He's already bigger than AK was during his early days. But I still think Howard is out of reach.. he's a once-in-a-decade type of athlete in terms of size + speed + athleticism. Kemp got a lot bigger as his days went on, but he was never near the size Howard is. I'm speaking more in terms of what he could be as a relatively "run-and-dunk" sort of energy player. Bosh is more of a finesse player than anything.

I am in the camp against Evans putting on a bunch of weight, just let him do his thing at SF. His shot will probably come in time and will be great at playing the passing lanes with the occasional block thrown in.

Here's another comparison. Jeremy Evans is like a younger Jamario Moon.

Moon has 3 point range, doesn't he? I don't think Evans has taken a shot outside the paint yet.

I'd also compare Evans to Thaddeus Young

The comparison to Hakim Warrick wasn't bad either.

But some of you comparing him to Shawn Kemp or Dwight Howard must be looking at a completely different player. Maybe you guys got confused between Evans and Al Jefferson? They're both black...

Yeah, but Moon didn't start playing in the NBA until he was 27. Besides the jump shot, everything else between the two is pretty similar or no? I don't think Evans will ever have a great shot, but I do think he will be able to knock down 15 footers at some point in his career. At least I would like to think.

Bryon Russel couldn't hit anything when he was a rookie. He eventually became a reliable shooter. Evans has a decent enough stroke to do the same. His free-throws are pretty pure.

Hmmm... Maybe...

I'm really beginning to like our frontline. If Memo can come back and play half decent offensively, and the rest of our core stay healthy, we could actually have something that we haven't had in forever, DEPTH.

Unlike previous years, perhaps AK and Evans might be able to slow down Odom when the Lakers move to their "small" lineup? Unlike previous years, we actually have a big man (Jefferson) who plays inside and not just yell while bricking jumpers from the top of the key. That sweet baseline spin Jefferson had in the 3rd quarter was amazing. I had sexy visions of him getting an and 1 against Gasol.

I'm beginning to like this team... As long as they stay healthy... Raja to frustrate/closeline Kobe... AK to slow down Artest/Odom... Jefferson, Millsap, Evans, AK, Memo, and Fess to throw at Gasol and Bynum.

One thing that we're lacking, outside shooting. Hayward needs to step it up. He had a few nice plays tonight, but also missed some easy ones inside. It's not showing just quite yet, but against good teams they'll shut down these dunks that we're getting and will force us to make some outside jumpers.

And I really don't have any confidence in CJ or AK providing it... This is where losing Wes Matthews might hurt us more than we thought...
