What's new

I'm not a doctor, but I'm going to say this anyway (about IT Band Syndrome)...

Put Favors in a ****in cryo-chamber. Sick of this ****. Shut him down. Freeze the body.

I have IT band syndrome and it started with hurting a muscle in my hip. I personally think it has more to do with back and pelvic muscles than the knee. It just makes you move weird so the knee is where the pain is. Favors had back problems last year and his back looks really tight and I think that is why his knee hurts. He needs to get his back better to help his knee.

I don't see favors as an athletic freak. He is big and strong but kind of lumbering and a bit slow, although he does show flashes of quick footwork. Compared to griffin who is an actual freak of nature favors is a step below.

Who besides Griffin is more athletic than Favors? He is undoubtedly a top 5 PF when healthy.

His P3 stuff was off the charts. When healthy, he is vertically explosive. Strong. Etc.....

Lot of truth to this. He may have nerve damage in the back area causing the pain in his knee. However, I'm not a medical professional nor do I know the specifics of his problem, just know that my back issues have caused pain in my leg.

I'm legit worried about the guy and think some questions about our training staff and medical staff are more than fair.

On one of those loose balls he bent over and looked like the 40 something guy playing pickup ball for a little too long. It did look like more of a back thing than a knee thing. He needs to drop weight even if it costs him some muscle... the current program isn't working.

Favors spent time in P3 this summer. Why didnt they pick up on anything? It seems that Favors has some really unique kind of problem that might be out of the Jazz's staff expertise.

P3 staff is great but they are not great with injuries. They are more injury prevention.

There is still very little information about this injury and what is actually going on so it is very hard to draw any kind of conclusion.

The only thing that I find odd and wonder about is why they have played him when he does not seem healed up of whatever is bothering him. The Jazz staff has been very good at trying to make sure players are all the way healed and it wont make things worse to play them.

It is frustrating the lack of info we get as fans about players and their injuries but it makes sense from a competitive standpoint to limit what other teams know about your players.

Bronc,

Isn't ITBS often a result of the quads being far stronger than the hammies? They're obviously stronger anyway (far stronger really) but my point is, isn't it sort of because the ratio of strength is just too far off?

I'm literally basing this off of memory from over 20 years ago so while this sounds right and familiar to me it could very well be wrong.

I just saw this. That is one cause of this and a concern for many runners who have over use problems. I would be shocked if that was the case for Favors based on what info I have seen and the workout videos P3 has shown of him and the data they have shown that seems unlikely. But frankly we really dont have enough info to make a reasonable guess about what is going on.

Favor has always run flat footed and seems to heal strike a lot when running, this can cause problems.

I don't know, some people are just more prone to injury/health problems. Don't really think there always has to be somebody to blame.

Do you think there's a chance that all these folks aren't worried because they all know more than us in almost every facet of sports conditioning, medicine and injury prevention?

We still have very little info about Favors and what is going on but I am reading some tidbits that concern me now. Still just guesses at some problems though.

sound like we might get both Favors and Hood back for the next game. Hill has his walking boot off but the last player to go through something similar is Harris who missed 16 games with his similar injury and missed 2 weeks after getting his walking boot off. So I expect Hill is out at least another week and probably longer.

It is interesting to hear about the team doing strength training with Favors and helping him do that without putting pressure on the knee as much. They also talked about him learning to jump and land and move without putting as much pressure on his knee. Reading that statement kind of shocked me. He should have been doing this his whole strength training career. I also know that P3 should be doing that and does do that. Although I am sometimes surprised at P3 because they spend a lot of time on new training techniques and spend a lot of time with computer systems monitoring and tracking players but skip on some of the basics of sports performance. I personally dont have a lot of respect for Jazz strength staff in the past when I have met with them and watched some of their programming. But never thought it was something that wouldnt meet the players needs and between them and P3 they should be getting their needs met. But maybe they are worse than I thought now that we are getting more info.

Fast delete but to answer your question NAOS I have no inside information, just stuff in the article quoted and a few things on Twitter from players and media saying the same thing.

I figured you were referencing the article. That's why I deleted. Thanks for the link

bump.

Favors and all of his handlers did a **** job of preparing his body for this season. He's had two off-seasons in his entire career where he's known exactly what position he was preparing for and had a very good idea of his role; and I've been very disappointed with the results of both of those off-seasons. This is about as disturbing a trend as the jazz organization is facing right now in terms of player development (the 2nd being Dante Exum).

At least the Jazz are being smart with him now. The worst thing that could happen is some huge setback. The most important thing for him is to enter the off-season as close to 100% as possible.
