Inquiring minds wanna know: Why can't you use the N-word?

There was, and is, a very commonly-used acronym for Hitler's National Socialist Worker's Party which prevailed in Germany for parts on the 1930's and 1940's. Why is that N-word filtered out, I ax ya?

Once the dust settles and Jason has time to work on some of the non-essential items, I am hoping that I get the option to turn off the filter. This was an option for premium members at one time, then a board "upgrade" took that away. I don't need to see the "naughty" words, but they beat the **** out of these goddamn ****ing asterisks.

I'm not aware of any common acronyms for Hitler's party. A common abbreviation, sure.

I will be surprised if Nazi is in the filter, though.

Well, Eric, a couple things, then....

1. I guess it aint filtered. This is all Mo's damn fault, I tellya! She just claimed it was filtered.

2. Is there some meaningful distinction, in this context, between an abbreviation and an acronym?

From Websters: "an abbreviation (as FBI) formed from initial letters"

Meaningful, possibly not. Who cares about using words properly?

Is there a distinction between an ape and a primate? If I referred to a spider monkey as an ape, would that be correct? Is the level of correctness dependent on context?

Actually, you are right, of course. FBI would, strictly speaking, be an acronym, whereas "Feds" would be kinda like an abbreviation, akin to "nazi."

Ok look, I am running out of good necro-bump images. This is the last decent one before I have to start dredging the depths.

I thought this thread was about the further pussification of America and the censorship of "Huckleberry Finn".

Necro-bump aside, I have to say you are right Viny. Hopper was good at getting to the core of his opinion of what others should think about vague topics using equivocation and non sequiturs to great effect.
