insight on the jefferlog and millsap trades

To me jefferson and millsap walking away at the end of the year still gives us something...... Money to spend, playing time for the youngsters next year and roster flexibility.
So im fine if they are not traded..... i just hope that thier minutes go down after the deadline if we are not going to trade them anyway

i seriously doubt they will. but in the case of us loosing them both do we even know if there will be any solid free agents to pick up this off season? after all kanter and favors can be starters but we still need solid back ups if something happens to one of them. we need atleast a solide pf/c combo to do a 3 man rotation.

Ya it doesn't seem like there are any really good big name guys in free agency next year, but im sure there will be some decent guys to go after.

Well that answers my question from another thread about trade exceptions.

So in their efforts to help small market teams retain their players the Owners have made it so that teams don't get a benifit when the player decides to leave town. Awesome.

I still think that Bargnani is coming to SLC before seasons end, he could be an All-Star under the tutelage of Larry Saunders.

he would help stretch the floor, and would be a good 3 man rotation with kanter and favors... i am still not real high on him though. but i could defintally see it happening

But, but, but Al and Sap are the dynamic duo that beat the Spurs donchya know? They will lead Tyrone to glory, he just knows it.

Lets hope that management knows mediocrity when it sees it and opts for trying for something better, even if it does not work. Make the attempt at least.

Why the long face Mr. O'LongConner? This long con gotcha down in the dumpies? Poor boy.

On what?

Sorry to break it to everyone, but there is no real upside to keeping them if they're just walking. Less than no upside, actually.

The better question is. With all this money, who can we spend it on?
Correct.

Answer: Junk or overpaying the roster. The Jazz can also find other expiring contracts for expiring contracts. The Jazz could likely find some low-end rookie-scale players or picks as well.

Better than whatever the hell is going on right now.

I'm really hoping Paul is traded, only because he WILL leave once this season is over. Al will stay, and like it or not, we are not in a position to trade him. We need a center, kanter isn't ready to take on Al's role and we have nothing to offer any teams that have a center worth getting rid of Al for. The most important change that can be made for us is the coaching, that is the reason for most of our problems. Corbin has a top seed team on his hands but has no idea how to use it!

Wow, there was a lot of information in that article. Sounds like teams were abusing the sign and trade thing so they nerfed it to make it almost worthless. While this levels the playing field in free agency some, I agree that it does hurt us this offseason. I think that this makes it so that the only benefit to having Al and Paul at the end of the season is cap relief; and don't discount cap relief because while it may seem that it won't help us with a crap crop of free agents, we can still use it to get picks from other teams by taking on bad payroll contracts and releasing them. Unfortunately, that's a long term solution that means that unless Favors and co. pick it up, we might really suck next year.

The Jazz always say they keep trade intentions close to the vest. But, why aren't other teams mentioning the Jazz. I think is because the Jazz aren't talking serious about a trade. I think this means there is only a small chance either will be moved. Who cares if we make the playoffs with a team that wont be here next year?

Expiring contracts have negative value?

Teams spend a lot of effort, and give up assets, to acquire expiring contracts to free up money and the optionality that buys them in the upcoming season. If you see this as worthless, I'm sure there is not one NBA GM/ executive/ owner who agrees with your position.
