Not necessarily to the Jazz but in general, is AK worth $10 million? The Timberwolves overpaid, I think he may be worth $7-8 but not $10 (again, in general).
 
No way in hell. Twolves fans, and some Jazz fans will tell you fair market value. They'll give you a list of average players that make the same.
Let me be the first to break it you, they aren't worth the money they are getting either!

AK's injury prone, he isn't dedicated to putting in the extra time, and he shoots too many jumpers. The Twolves will have horrible nick names for him by the end of the 2 years.
I could see him having some good games out of the gate, and everyone will be thrilled. Then over the course of the year he'll get injured, brick city, and they'll be reports of his work ethic in practice.
The Wolves will underachieve yet again, and Tpups fans will regret this move in the end.
 
I say no. $7-$8 nil sounds good to me. My issue is that at that price range the Wolves were likely bidding against themselves.

Yea he is overpaid with 10 milion but you gotta look at the length of the agreement too. As it's been said it's for 2 years. Smart move for the wolves. They will throw Derrick Williams away as they did with Beasley and Darko. Also they can switch him to SF and use him as faciliator too.
 
lol, looking at Humphries getting 12 mil AK at 10 is bargain. In general all players are overpaid.
 
i think i'm on record as one of the biggest AK believers left in jazzland... and even i wouldn't have advocated a 2 yr 20M deal given the jazz's current salary construct. having said that, if he really gave the jazz the first shot (like he said he would) there's no telling if he might have accepted an offer in the 7-8M range, but it looks like the jazz basically told him, "oh, welcome back to the NBA, good luck out there!" i can't understand why they'd do that. AK would automatically become our best wing player, and stylewise he's the perfect guy for hayward to watch and model some things after.

so in short, no, i wouldn't have made him the minny offer, but i think we could have had him for less.

AK has value, but I wouldn't play him over Hayward or Williams (or Burks) and that is what you'd be doing. Even assuming we didn't pick up Foye, you give 25 mins to AK and you automatically reduce Marvin to 23 and slot Hayward in at SG only. Play him his 30 and Burks only gets 18. Or heaven forbid, you put AK at PF and add to an already crowded situation there.

AK was not a good fit for the Jazz. With a dominant inside force in Jefferson - and hopefully Favors - the Jazz need a SF who can hit some shots. AK is not that guy, despite what Borat says. Last season he played with Utah, opponents literally had one foot in the paint, just daring him to shoot wide open 20-ft'ers.

Marvin is more versatile and Hayward is an up-and-coming star. Gordon "slumped' to 46%/35% last season.

agree with some of your points, disagree with your conclusion. marvin isn't more versatile than AK... in fact, very few people on the planet are more versatile than AK. marvin does one thing better than AK and that's sink jump shots. in just about every other facet of the game, AK is a better player. but marvin is 25 and AK is 31, so i totally understand not wanting to undermine marvin's development... but i don't think you have to.

same with gordon. i absolutely think gordon needs 30+ mpg from here forward and is probably at this point our best creator (even ahead of all 3 point guards).

BUT... you can play four guys at those two positions. right now our 4-man rotation is hayward-marvin-burks-foye and will cost us around 14M. a 4-man rotation of AK-hayward-marvin-burks is a GREAT rotation, only costs us 19-20M under the scenario i spelled out above, and still offers plenty of court time and touches to the three young wings we're most interested in developing.

it's all moot now, but my point is simply that you can sign AK and still treat gordon, marvin and alec like important pieces that need to be developed.
 
If he has a good attitude and doesn't get injured and plays pf, then he's worth it. He can still do a lot,and is a great help defender. Would be a great fit with Rubio.
