What's new

Is anyone here the guy named Rick who called 1320 and dissed locke?

I like where this thread is going. My thoughts on a few more of Utah's sports radio personalities:

PK- If Monson is the biggest douche on the scene, PK is a very close 2nd. Dude is grating on all levels.

Jan Jorgensen- I seriously don't know how this guy got a job in sports radio. He seems to stumble over every 3rd or 4th word he says and he has trouble stringing together any thought that would be considered intelligent. He's not a dick to his listeners but he is extremely unentertaining and for the life of me I can't see what he brings to the table.

Hans Olsen- I like him. I think he gives good insight and he doesn't try to be some over the top type of radio guy.

Kyle Gunther- He's a Ute, so I want to like him but he seriously seems like he has A.D.D. I guess it's easier to like him considering he's forced to host a show with Jan, but truth be told, he's still not very good.

Bill and Spence- I like their show. They're not "in your face" like PK. They're also friendly to the listeners who call in, and damn it, I like their banter.

DJ- He might be the best here in Utah. Especially when you consider he's got to work with PK. IMO probably the most fair and balanced radio guy when it comes to all of the local teams.

I'd say I'm glad you like my work but if it's satisfying morans like yourself, I'm doing something wrong.

Come to think of though.... and I wasn't going to say anything....but your voice is kinda weak. Doesn't sound very manly. Where is the deep growl that real men have?

I agree with this. As a Utah fan, I really liked Kyle and Jakes show. They were a good team. Jake balanced out Kyles A.D.D. and could always bring it back to the point. Jan brings nothing to the table and was a bad hire from the get go. He really is not made for radio.

If that was really you listening to Utah radio and calling in from abroad then I'm nominating you teh biggest jazz fan for the last two days of this year.

Now I have other things to contemplate since you've twisted my peg on bluesrocker, a little...

Because "Rick" knows so much more about basketball than Locke. He called in to clown the most knowledgeable NBA person in the Utah media market, sounds like he probably had some sick points. Such as - as far as I can glean - that Locke is an idiot.

You try listening to fanzzzzzz call in every day with their inane points for years and years and tell me you wouldn't grow immensely cynical that some guy out there makes a good point. And yet, I don't think he's a dick to most callers, but kudos to him for calling spades spades.

Blues, relax, Rick just wants some attention.

I also agree that while it's harder to listen to Locke's play-by-play than Hot Rod, I do still really like all the extras he provides:

Have you guys seen his new video tours of opposing teams' arenas/locker rooms?
Have you guys seen his Youtube posts he does all the time?

Locke provides so much more information for us that it's silly to not be at least a little appreciative.

P.S. I rarely listen to radio of any kind anymore, so I can't comment on that list. Although, I do like DJ's diplomatic approach and non-abrasive voice. :) heh

Locke the jazz play by play guy very bad. Locke the the radio sports guy brilliant. He is only rude to idiots.

I would say his play by play is average. Ditto on the rest of the comment. I don't always agree with his points but I never listen t Locke without learning something which is different from most sports talk guys in this market. There is no one on 1280 that does that for me.

I just love how DJ talks about sports - I mean, that's why I listen to sports radio. Not to hear some narcissistic dickweed's cry for attention.
I HATE PK!!

Locke is fine as long as he's not taking calls. He's a transparent company man and that also annoys. Then there's his voice. I dunno - I don't think his extra stat stuff balances it out. I miss the lush, Hot Rod.

Jan is so horrible it's funny. But only for a second, then I must change the dial.
Hans is so horrible it's horrible. Painfully. I get physically ill. Ick. He's terrible.

I like Locke. I think he has good insights and is entertaining. I like how he uses stats to look at things. During Jazz season, I prefer to listen to him, because I think he has the most to say and is the most insightful.

Overall, however, I think that the 700 team Bill & Spence is the best. Both are very measured, reasonable, have good insights, and banter well. I also like the way 700 talks RSL, while the other stations not so much. I'm a huge RSL fan.

I don't mind Monson, and the Monson and Jake are ok, but spend waaay to much time going off on non-sports tangents. I only listen to them when 1320 and 700 are on ads. I do like Monson's columns, though. I don't get why people get so pissed at him. So he doesn't tow the party line. Big deal. I don't agree with a lot of what he writes, why only read or listen to things you agree with? Where's the fun in that?

They guy I don't miss is Kevin Graham. God, he was annoying.

I agree with the earlier poster, how the hell did Jan Jorgenson ever get a job on radio? I mean, Karl Malone is more articulate than this guy, and he stammers more than Bob Newhart.

The only person I can stand consistently on 1280 is Jake. The rest are entertaining for short stints, yet downright disgraceful at others (like when Kyle prank calls people at the ticket office, wow, really, and there are tons of other things...)

As for Locke, he is by far my favorite voice on the radio, which may say something about me I guess. His excited personality gets me excited for basketball, and though he's obviously a Jazz fan, so am I so no biggie. He doesn't just run the company line, he complains about the players like we all do. As for his numbers and stats, I find this the most interesting of all, so yeah I know I'm a bit odd, but here's a vote for Locke, Salt Lake sports radio's best personality (follwed closely by DJ. Bolerjack is ok, but not great, why isn't anyone talking about him?)

cctrackstar, our tastes must be totally opposite. I like Jake ok. He's achieves what PK is going for yet still is able to pretty much keep to the sports topic. Again, I hate PK - a constant roadblock to the sports topic "Look at me look at me look at me look at me look at me look at me look at me look at me!!!"

I don't hate Locke. But I hate the way he deals with callers who have a different opinion than him. Total dick. Same with Bagley.

Boler? Buffoon. At first it was annoying but now it's almost funny. He probably cried when Memo got traded and he'd no longer be able to say "MONEY!" Ugh. He's not that creative - he'll still find a way to get some mileage out of it somehow.

I like Locke, he is just trying to do his best.

Plato said "be kind to everyone, for they too are fighting a hard battle"

He posts draft analysis, video before away games of the locker rooms, and a lot of unique insights to this game. Sometimes he seems really distracted and says out there things but man he try's and for that I got nothing but respect.

Im a BYU fan and I like Kyle the best, i think jan is the worst. I like DJ, I hate Monson (probably in part because he seems to hate BYU).
I like girrard (dont know how to spell it but the guy with bolerjack and locke) I think locke has alot of knowledge but needs to understand that people are listening to him on the radio so he should't be such an arrogant jerk off.
