Is it better that the Jazz keep both picks?

And what about the 1-2 scrubs that comprise the "inactive" list. Certainly a guy like Elson desverves a thread. And he did "play" occasionally. So 1 thread for each player on the roster (that makes 13-15), one thread for Boler, one for Harpring, and a few miscellabneous ones. Yep, we should be able to keep everything on 1 page. Perfect!

While you maintain the position that we need to draft a point in the lottery, I maintain the position that Harris is good enough for now. Next year we should be in the lottery too. We can also find good point guards even without being in the lottery.

As long as we're in the lottery for now, lets swing for the fences. Go after a potential big man or wing.

I agree. Outside of Irving, there may not be any starting-quality PG's in the draft. So the Jazz absolutely do NOT want to reach and take a PG at #12. Well, they might take Jimmer, but that would be for his scoring and and to sell more tickets. not because they think he'll be a starting PG in 2-3 years.

The GS pick is only protected to #7 next season. And Utah's pick (the one we owe Minnesota) is top-16 protected, IINM. So, yes, the Jazz will probably have a couple of lottery picks next year. I see them going wing or big if they don;t move into the top-3. I also think KOC will look to trade the #12, next year's picks, maybe even in a package w/ CJ for veterans. Hayward, Favors, Evans and the #6 are enough young guys.

You didn't watch Irving play this year did you? Have you noticed how people compare him to Chris Paul? Do you find Chris Paul in the middle first round of a draft? **** man, we're talking about a guy who's gonna go at least top 3, and probably #1 overall, and you're saying we can find a player like him in the middle of the first round. I don't even know how to respond to such an asinine comment.

Tony Parker.

Darren Collison.

We can find good quick point guards in the mid first round. Stop making asinine comments like we're DOOMED if we don't draft a top PG in the first few picks of the draft.

Jazz were only close to the playoffs because of the 27-13 start. After that, the record was closer to the level of the Kings, Wizards, Raptors, Nets and Pistons (around 23 wins for a full season).
So next season, who do the Jazz pass up to make the playoffs - the Grizzlies or Hornets? Both those teams finished with 46 wins. Do the Jazz really project to 46 or more wins? Will they even pass up Houston and Phoenix, the other non-playoff teams directly ahead of them? Maybe. But I don't see Hayward and Favors being all-star caliber players next year. I think it's going to take a couple of years to completely re-work the roster. I think 41-41, with occasional flashes of brilliance, is a lofty goal for next season. And that record would not make the WC playoffs.

Thats 3 point guards in the last 10 years. The Jazz looked hard at all 3 but chose to go otherwise. My point is they don't come around too often but Irving will be a superstar and is worth a top 2 pick.
 
The more and more I think about it, if the Jazz draft a wing player sg/sf the more likely I think they'll move either CJ or Bell <--preferable> and that could mean including one of the picks and may even draft a player for another team with the trade in the works.

They need to move CJ and Bell anyway. They need to either draft a very solid wing prospect or trade for a better wing. CJ and Bell and whatever for Afflalo. That would be good.

Ok but have you even looked at a mock draft for 2012? Example - Draft Express has the first point guard taken at 13, next year is a big mans draft. One shooting guard and the rest are big men until pick 13, but with so many bigs coming out next year maybe we can get a good point guard around 11 or 12. You can look at it both ways I guess.

That's something KOC needs to consider. What could happen next year. Perhaps next year's draft is stronger?

All I'm sayin is that Harris and Earl can hold down the fort at PG. Hayward can even handle the ball a lot too.

But our bigs/wings leave a lot to be desired. Millsap is just too short and durability is a huge question mark. Jury is still out on Al. Favors showed flashes of being real good, but that's all. Fess is garbage. Evans showed that he can dunk and be pushed around a lot inside with his 180 lbs frame. AK is a FA who will miss plenty of games due to injury. CJ is CJ, inconsistent and weak minded.

So I say KOC should most definitely focus on wings and bigs this draft. Let Earl and Harris battle things out for PG next year. And next offseason consider the point guards. Besides, we're not getting ourselves Irving.

Draft best avble pg with the 6th pick (hopefully Knight) Then if Jimmer/Walker avble at 12 draft him too. Trade Harris to Portland for Batum (maybe throw in G.S. pick to make it work and ask for Babbitt too). Trade Millsap to Detroit for Austin Daye & there Lotto pick ( I think its pick 7-8). Then trade Memo & the 7th pick to Cleavland for nothing but cap space. Don't resign AK. Trade Bell 4 cap Space. Then sign Marc Gasol for 12-13 million a season. Memphis wont have the money to match. Other possiblites Deandre Jordon. Jazz depth chart

It would have to be enough that Memphis wouldnt match and play him, Favors, and Big AL 32 minutes apiece. Or try and sign Jordan for 7-8 Million a season and hope Clippers don't match. And I would take Gasol over Millsap, yes maybe overpaying but The future of the Jazz would look bright with all the pieces now in place, just needing to develope.

Plus look at all the good teams and the money they have tied up in the 4 and 5. Lakers 40ish million. Dallas 40+ million. Spurs 30+million. Orl 30+million. So Utah would be at about 32+million. But we would have a great core locked up for years to come with. And seriously what team could compete with Utahs Bigs?
