What's new

Is it really that far fetched to see D will in Jazz uni again?

Conspiracy theory: Deron being traded and then coming back is what Tyrone,Kevin, and Deron talked about in one of their "private" meetings they had right before Deron was traded. Is had been the plan the entire time.

All it would take to have the money needed would be to amnesty Harris and Buyout Bell and not resign CJ or Howard or amnesty Big Al and buyout Bell.
buyout bell and he still counts against the cap. Harris does not make nearly what Deron is going to want and without CJ or Howard we need another wing. That guy will not be free. I'm not sure if your deal works or not but it sure does not seem like it.

I think there's a 0% chance that it happens, but I don't understand why. He'd fit in amazingly. We'd be a complete team with Deron back.

Agreed. I think a small part of him may consider it and want to, but it would just be too weird with the whole Sloan situation and how it went down.

Dwill to Favors would be nasty.

It does. Jazz are already on track to be $5 million under the cap. Amnestying Harris puts the Jazz $14 million under. Assuming the cap remains at $58 million. There's also wiggle room on taking back less salary than shipping out. Amnestying Jefferson (or trading him to another team under the cap), without considering Harris' salary at all puts the Jazz $20 million+ under the cap.

Sign him and then deal him at the deadline.

Deron will never play for the Jazz again, but I think it's funny how most fans just assume that it's because Deron doesn't want to come back. IMO the front office wouldn't welcome him back even if he had interest in returning. I think Greg Miller and KOC are/were extremely unhappy with how Deron handled himself during the end of his time in this orginization. The fact that Deron was traded AFTER Sloan had already left is pretty telling.

As some posters have already said in here, this team is building great chemistry. Why jeopordize that by bringing back a tempermental "superstar"? It's been mentioned by the likes of Bolerjack and Locke (IMO credible sources in regards to such matters) that Jazz management believe that D-Will is a great player whose tempermant is going to see him play for a variety of different teams and coaches during his career. I think that opinion is dead on.
This.
Deron burned his bridges. He was a cancer on the court. You simply cannot have players refuse to run plays and openly defy a coach.

Besides, didn't we argue ad nauseum about paying a PG a MAX contract. Derrick Rose: that's the only PG deserving of a MAX contract right now. Deron's a great player, but he's not without his faults: TO's, shooting percentage and demeanor. When things go south, Deron pouts and whines instead of fighting to make a team better. Jazz were 27-13 when the team hit a rough patch on the road. And Williams just quit on the team and Sloan.

I don't want him back

Part of me would love to see Deron in a Jazz uniform again. I enjoy watching him play and I was one of the few people at the ESA cheering him during the introductions and not giving him the "Kobe treatment" every time he touched the ball back when the Nets were in SLC.

Yes, his attitude was always a concern. We may never know if there was any motivation in trading Deron beyond trying to get value for him before he bolted in free agency. But it seems pretty likely that KOC made the move at the behest of ownership, which would indicate that he burned bridges, one way or another.

However it's possible that the roster and coaching changes would fit Deron better, and maybe Corbin would afford him a longer leash than Sloan did. It's possible that bringing in guys with previous character issues like Josh Howard and Jamaal Tinsley is proof that the organization is changing the way it approaches building teams now that Sloan is gone. It's possible that Deron may have realized just how damn good he had it here after eating humble pie in Jersey for the past year and a half, and maybe won't shut down after a losing skid as long as he's playing for a winning team.

All of these things are possible. Just not likely. It's much more likely that Deron goes to Dallas and Dwight Howard follows him there after holding the Magic hostage for another season.

I can see DWill retiring here, but thats about it. If he does ever home to Utah (which is seriously unlikely) it'll probably be at least 5-6 years from now, when he's getting a little bit older.

I could maybe see that. After he's got his rings or whatever, coming back to finish his career where he started it.

This is pulled straight from my brain. Thief!

Is Deron a legit max player? That is the question. Because we wouldn't be able to sign more than a couple other guys to big salaries if we brought back D.Will.

I didn't read the entire thread. but I thought I would offer an opinion. I don't see him coming back. I think Dallas or LA will be a likely destination.

Hell no, unless we trade him again straight away and this is why:
1. He is a cancer
2. He is not a top5 PG any longer
3. He is not worth MAX
4. Even if he turns things around and we sign DWill to MAX we won't be able to keep all our lottery picks in 2-3 years right when they start blossoming

I agree with this. The Jazz need a PG like Marshall who will run plays without a big ego weighing on everyone. What's great about this team is how well everyone gets along and supports one another. They play team basketball, and everyone knows their role. Deron had some of the same players----Al Jeffs, Millsap, Miles, Hayward, etc.---and the team was falling apart.

When my buddy and I played craps with D-Will at the Lake Tahoe celebrity golf tournament we talked about Utah. At first we talked about Utah State University and he asked us if it was the University in Orem which was kind of funny. I told him that Utah missed him and Deron responded "Yeah, you're not the only one."
We weren't sure what that meant but a little later my friend said that Utah kind of sucks (he's from california) and Deron was like "Really? I actually like Utah".

In real life Deron Williams is actually pretty cool and didn't seem like a diva or anything in my chance to chat with him.

So no lie, I think he actually means it when he says he enjoyed his time here. Here's a photo of Deron with my friend to verify my story.
